I don't know about these specific guitars, but I will say there's an ABW/German Kostal MD at Dream Guitars. Upside--Petteway et al have a great recording setup and are consistent, to the extent of what you can hear on a YT clip. Downside--I get that it's ABW, but I think the Kostal tone is evident:

Pretty sure that guitar belonged to the forums own Steveh, for what it's worth.

Indeed it did, and it's very sadly missed but I replaced it with a nylon which is where I spend 90% of my fretting time these days.

It went to a chap in the USA who told me he very much liked it but ultimately decided he wants something away from the Somogyi house tone.

I remain hugely interested in Jason's guitars and am off to try a friend's new Kostal MD in a couple of days. If I could have afforded to keep my MD I would have for sure.

Cheers,
Steve

Jason this set is just amazing, and the rosettes and end grafts are so vibrant in color! Congratulations on an amazing project!

That's a tough choice, but a nice dilemma!

I ended up with an MDC (claro/German) ... but unexpectedly acquired steveh's OM (Madrose/Euro) as well. Life is hard

Quite different beasts. Both lovely. Hard to chose. My MD is only a few months old (the OM must be about 3 years old by now), but if I could only grab one in a fire, that's my baby. Partly because it was commissioned by me to my spec, but there's something magical about that MD growl and bass. The OM is more balanced, much stronger in the mids, rounder trebles and a more conventional, all round guitar - which still has a staggering bass.

I'm currently recording an album featuring both. I'm also planning to do some comparison videos of the OM and the MD, but finding time for all this with a demanding day job (gotta pay for those lovely guitars!) and a baby is proving challenging to say the least, so it might be a good while yet.

When's decision time for you?
