Octave Mandolin
I’d like to learn to play an octave mandolin. Anyone have one they’d sell? Ideally I’d like to trade one of my mandolins for an octave, but that is NOT essential. Thanks.

This has been on Cotten's site for a long time at 2500 - recent big price drop and now set up as an Octave Mandolin:

Thanks.
Several AGF members have offered suggestions that cause me to think I should clarify my original post. First, thanks to those who took the time to guide my search. But I need to impose a limit on myself.
I'd like to find an entry level instrument since I don't know whether this whim is real or imagined. I've made false starts before and hope to avoid that trap this time. Higher priced instruments have certain advantages, of course, but I'll always be a guitar player first and that's where most of my cash will go. I'm not sure how far up the price list I'll have to go to scratch this latest itch, but my initial thought was somewhere in the vicinity of $600. If this is unrealistic, I'm willing to rethink the whole proposition. Feel free to disabuse me of this notion if I'm shooting blanks. Thanks, again. Larry

Random suggestion, but an octave mandolin is a pretty specialized instrument. It might be hard to find one for inexpensive. I wonder though if a tenor guitar would scratch your itch? There's been a few inexpensive options available the last few years. Ibanez, Blueridge and Goldtone all have models. Martin even made an LXM tenor but I rarely see them.

True
I agree. That is a path I have already taken - with halting success. In fact tenor guitars led me to the octave mandolin. Truth be told, I dabble too much while looking for musical magic. Picture a butterfly flitting about. That’s me!

Thanks.
Thanks, Fitness. I made a run at that one, but couldn't get together on price. There is no hurry about this. My whims come and go.

Found a Trinity College octave mandolin
Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I now have a TC instrument that will give me a chance to explore different tunings on a somewhat larger fret board.
