Thank you for that. It (ivoroid) should be banned from guitar building...

Actually, ivoroid is pretty resilient to dents and dings, so it's quite functional. I just don't like it, nope nope nope.

Yes I'm sure. Its pretty hard stuff, I just prefer wood, although some of mine do have it.

I think on other guitars these strings are good: evenly balanced across the spectrum and punchy.
But on the Halcyon: these strings sing! Balanced, warm, bright, punchy, yet capable of great subtlety! Overall- just plain awesome tone and feel!

Disclaimer: these are just my experiences and my opinions, and I recommend Halcyon owners do their own comparisons. But, for $5-6 I think the Aluminum Bronze deserve a shot!
Going through this epic thread again as I debate myself on my upcoming 2nd Halcyon. THIS post though surprised me, because I really could not stand the EB alum bronze strings. Of course strings play different on each guitar, or maybe there really is some magic involved here. I have one pack left, and maybe I will try them on my Lutz+Primavera OM. Curious, Fountainhead ... what was your end
verdict on these? I'm most likely going to put on my new fav Curt Mangans.

Default Halcyon/Tinker thread

Hey PJ,

I've actually just received my 2nd Halcyon about 2 weeks ago! An MJ cutaway, with Torrified Lutz/ EIR. Strangely enough, I am not crazy about the Aluminum Bronze except on my Halcyon AJ! Those strings for the first 2 or so weeks still sound great on it! I am going to try them on my new Halcyon to see if it's got something to do with just the one guitar, or if it carries through the whole brand. I haven't tried Mangan strings yet, but I've tried many other brands- most successful (in general) with Elixir Phosphor Bronze. I do like a couple other brands, but I tend to play them dead in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I'm most pleased with Elixirs for the combination of longevity and tone. Yes, there are compromises made for fiscal reasons, but only when I'm not recording- for that I use what sounds best, and change them as needed.

Sorry for the long-windedness! Basically, I still really like the tone of Aluminum Bronze strings on my AJ, and they last about a month- good for my needs now. I'll try to remember to message you (if you'd like), when I try them on my new Halcyon MJ (which is amazing BTW).

Give them a go- you may be pleasantly surprised , as I was!

Thanks for the reply, Fountainhead (or is it, Roark?). I'm even more curious about your new impressions on your AJ vs MJ, since I'm thinking about either. I'll PM you for some more info soon. And I appreciate the detail!

Has anyone replaced the bridge pins on their Halcyon? I'm thinking about it and don't know if they're the 3 or the 5 degree variety.

Hi guys, regrettably I've decided to sell 132. Ed and RJ's execution on it is flawless. Light as a feather, perfect construction. However, personal preferences (neck shape, scale, and overtone content) are all apparently not in my wheelhouse. None of this should be a reflection on the luthier, just me not knowing my preferences well enough. It's really a shame. A piece of this quality deserves to be in someone else's hands. If anyone's interested PM or email is fine and here is the classified.

My son played my padauk/lutz 000 over the weekend. After a few minutes he looked at me with a big smile and yelled "This is an awesome guitar!".

He's not the most experienced player...but he's the only other person who's played it so far and it was good to get another opinion about it.
