C. F. Martin and Game of Thrones

Fantastic inlay and amazing work across the board. Not really what I look for in a guitar but I'm sure someone with deep pockets will be happy with it whether they play it or not. I was thinking someday I might get something in the D-4x arena but anticipated I'd be looking in the 6 to 8 K range, not new car range.

^^ It's a Harv Leach masterpiece and in no way associated or "themed" for Game Of Thrones. It is, as most of Harvey's intense inlaid guitars, a collector piece. So, the person who buys it will have plenty of sense and money. Probably no different than people buying any guitar (here or otherwise) and letting them sit in cases or display boxes for viewing rather than playing.

I’m just having fun here, so not trying to have a big debate. But the the headstock depicts a dragon emerging from what looks like a frozen lake, which bears striking resemblance to a key event from last season’s Game of Thrones.

I love the guitar, and I love the show. Not trying to cast any aspersions.

"Intelligence" and the ability to afford expensive things are NOT correlated. Some of the least intelligent people I know are the wealthiest (they tend not to care about others much and will scam away where they can) while the "smart" folks (those with higher degrees and such) are a mixed bunch of middle-class and poor people.

I don't think the guitar is a smart purchase for a guitarist. For a collector of Martin guitars it's more of an investment opportunity than a playing guitar.

I prefer luthier made instruments (one builder from start to finish). 31K pays for one hell of a custom made luthier guitar, something that you would NEVER put down, complete with Howard Leach inlay if that's your thing.

Maybe even two of them.

PS: An investor collector would tell you that you are pissing your money away if you went the small shop luthier route, as your resell value would be very low.

Agreed. But I would not even consider betting $31k on that guitar as an investment. But hey, I've missed out on investments before!

I don't watch Game of Thrones so I was quite surprised to find a correlation to "Martin" and "Fine and Ice" that had nothing to do with C.F. Martin. The idea for the inlays came from someone at Martin who I seriously doubt watches it either. Not that I have anything against it mind you... I'll probably binge watch it at some point
The inlay has 2 separate possible meanings, 1: The obvious Yin Yang of hot vs cold, good vs evil etc and 2: The love story of the emperor and the empress.

So is it a battle or an embrace? You be the judge!

The dragon rising from the "ice" was simply a way to incorporate my "Smoke and Mirrors" thin shell effect in a limited run Martin...

To me it's art that is functional and I don't get why some feel offended by the price... What is the going rate for top-level art if it's in a fame? It seems to me that adding it to an already expensive "canvas" makes it a bargain!

...but in a way I get it... I can't afford one either

Well, now I guess I'll have to! Trouble is I have Dish and they are still feuding with HBO...

All of that inlay should make string-bending quite easy! Perhaps too easy and slip way too sharp!

Very nice artwork. Amazing how intricate and clean inlay work is these days when using machinery.
