Default Sold off NUMEROUS guitars, and I'm feeling GREAT!

When I hit 47, I knew I had a severe problem. LOL.

Actually, as a professional musician, and someone who is constantly on the move - twenty-two residential addresses over the years - lightening the load, pairing down to just what I need in order to work effectively, is a relief.

So, this is what I am down to.

2002 Huss & Dalton MJC and my 1990 National Tri-Cone, my main performance instruments.
Dell Arte 12 string
1930 National Triolian.
1990 Martin 000-16.
Eastman E10-OM and a Regal Tri-Cone, instruments I use when overseas.
My trusty Fender Telecaster.. .yeah, I play electric too.

That's it... light and nimble now. This makes moving around SO much easier!!

Somethings wrong here, by my count I have the same amount of guitars as you! Maybe you will start a new trend! Or not?

I’m envious Toby. I’ve been paring down but still have too many stringed instruments. To make matters worse, my son is also a performing musician and a multi-instrumentalist so we’ve got a herd of brass horns, a piano, a clarinet, his mandolin, guitars and bass guitar and assorted other instruments. He’s in college so some migrate to school with him but the house still looks like a music store.

I hope not. Every time my dog sees me pull out the cardboard boxes she asks me if she can ride shotgun in the U-Haul. LOL.

Default I Know What You Mean

Watching ones collection grow to ( in my case stupidity ) 27 guitars in the house and several more off sight ( well actually more but shhhh wife didn't know ) and playing a few other things.
Good on you Toby was not easy for me but at the end was very satisfying to gain all that space back and not have to drag so many along to practices and gigs.
Will be loosing another 2 at christmas and that takes me to 2 and then there will be only one retirement is a great thing to.Good luck old friend.

Different possessions, but similar feeling. When we made a move from one state to another 2 years ago, I sold off (and some given away) tons of toys. Motorcycle, ATV, pontoon, Ranger boat, ice fishing equipment, woodworking tools, and on and on. I didn't know at the time what a feeling of freedom comes over you afterwards when you realize you don't have to house, insure and maintain all the toys. It must have been the right time in my life to move on. Still no regrets.

It's also a great feeling when you don't have to house a house.

Thats fantastic that you were able to let go of such treasures. I had a thought once that haunts me and it was that I could do anything I needed on my 000-16 or OM-18V, this of course was set in an apocalyptic future where food was more expensive than guitars. I did manage to bring my collection from 65-70 down to maybe 25 tops (and thats probably with a banjo and a mandolin) and I think I can find a half dozen that can go. I am down to 9 tube amps from 30-35 . You can turn anything into Heroin I suppose. I'm just glad I got out of Forced Induction BMW's and RX-7's (The old ones).

I'm hoping to get down to 4 guitars. My main player (000-18 or 0003?), camping guitar, classroom guitar (both relative beaters), and my '64 melody maker...yeah, I play electric too, though sparingly!

Congrats on lightening your load!

Others have found the same thing. Having too many things is almost always burdensome. Keeping it as simple as possible is always best.

Wow Toby, you certainly have trimmed down!

Is the 000-16 the guitar you brought to Bellport? That was a nice guitar!

I dunno Toby, now when I watch one of your instructional videos there won't be a lot of guitars in the background. I am used to taking lessons from people who have a studio that looks like a guitar store. Makes me wonder about your commitment and if you are any good.

Not enough smiley faces to go here...
