Default A couple of recent builds

I don't post build threads as a rule, mostly because I'm not doing anything particularly innovative. And trust me, you really don't want to see pictures of "here's the result of french polish session number 4, and here's the result of french polish session number 8, and"... you get the general idea.

But I have finished a couple of guitars recently that I'm pretty pleased with, so I thought I'd share some pictures.

The first one is a 000. Cutaway, sound port, multi-scale fretboard, lutz top, and a pretty great set of ziricote.

The other one is a 12-fret 00. Western red cedar and quilted sapele.

Thanks for looking.

Steve

Love the sapele - and those position markers are very nice!

Thanks, but to be perfectly honest, I stole the idea from Michael Bashkin. I’m still working on executing them as elegantly as he does.

Lovely work, Steve! Both sets, Ziricote and the Sapele are pulse-raising.
Thanks for posting.

They are very beautiful. Is the first one a 13 fret and the second a 12 fret? That's how they look to my eye.

Doh! After actually reading, rather than just looking at the pictures, I see that the second is a 12 fret 00. Very nice! What's the scale lengths of the fan fret one?

Thanks for the kind words. Treble is 24.9 and bass is 25.5

Wow, Steve--they both look like suberb guitars!

Love the lines of your 000 cutaway...

And both back and sides sets look awesome!

I'm curious about the 13-fret fan-fret design. Aside from the 6th string being long-scale and the 1st string being short-scale, it looks like the 6th string bridge location is about where a 12-fret 6th-string would reach the saddle. And the 1st string reaches the saddle about where a 14-fret 1st string would. Is that roughly the intent? How does this arrangement affect the instrument's tone?

Beautiful work, Denvir. I can see why you're very pleased with both instruments.

Bridge/saddle placement is driven solely by the respective scale lengths and how they interact with the Xbrace. As far as I know, the fact that one might correlate to a 14 fret position and the other to a 12 fret is just coincidence.

Tone is so subjective that I have a really hard time addressing it. All I can say is that I’m very happy with the bottom end, and the treble has the sweetness that you might associate with a smaller Martin.

Sorry I can’t be more articulate or definitive about it.

Steve
