Default Yamaha LJ16 and LJ26

I tried the LJ16 last year at Music Zoo and played the LJ26 a couple of days ago, there. I really like these guitars. Here are the specs from Yamaha;

https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musi...l#product-tabs

The 26 costs $2300 and the 16 is 900. It looks to me like the differences are only bone nut and saddle versus urea and HS case versus hard bag.

Is anyone out there familiar with these guitars? Am I right about the difference?

They are similar to the LL series but with a J body like the Martin J. The guys a MZ said that they will be getting the 16 back in stock soon and I'll be running over there, and probably bringing one home, when they get them.

They are not at all the same guitar, but only you can decide if the differences are worth it. The LL26 and above are hand crafted in Japan. The other is made in China. The 26 will be much more lightly built and resonant. Better tuners. The braces are hand carved to a tap tuning based standard to be optimal for the top...a treatment that the 900 dollar one will not receive....Higher quality tone woods. The construction inside the guitar will be much cleaner on the 26.

You are getting something for your money when you step into their made in Japan hand crafted series 26/36/56. They are superb guitars.

Having said this, there is nothing wrong with Yamaha’s lower tier products either. I find their entire line to be well done.

Ahhhh Haaaa!

It's 8 or 9 months since I tried the 16 and I really like it then. The 26 was fantastic when I tried it a couple of days ago. I should be able to play them back to back soon.

Thanks for the info!

If you are able, try for the 26. They are very good. I was able to find two that were very well priced, I will never sell either of them. Good stuff!

True what was said about the 26 models, but as an owner of a 16 let me say it’s super cleanly put together inside, not a spec of glue or crooked rough braces inside. It’s very particularly built imo, it’s a steal because it’s built in China instead of somewhere else, the negative connotation that comes with being built in China is more of a mental thing these days, with the Yamaha L line anyway.
That said I’m sure you’ll be better a better quality with woods etc with the Japanese model. Worth the price? If you notice the differences and they’re important to you then sure!

Jarvis talks about some of the differences here as well...This guy knows first hand for sure...He has reviewed many a Yamaha...Specifically the LL26 and LL16s many times. He also has a good one on the LL36.

The LJ is a great shape for sure. I’d push for the 26 if I were you. I went middle of the road with my LJ16. I got the Billy Corgan model which came with tusq nut and saddle and Gotoh Tuners. I was more than happy with that upgrade and it sounds and plays beautifully!
