Default The Mystery with my New Martin OM-35

I acquired a 2005 Martin OM-35. I think it sounds better through the video than the previously posted recording with the OM-35. I'v been working on "The Mystery" (Tommy Emmanuel) the last 2 weeks and here it is. Forgive the couple of mistakes. I'd like to know what you think of the sound of the Martin recorded this way through the Canon PowerShot SX130IS.

Great work! Video and audio quality was fine for me.
Martin was balanced and very rich sounding.

I thought this sounded just fine for how it was recorded. Really nice playing as well. I like the little intro's you do for your vids as well.

Thanks. It was the first YT video playing the Martin. I had recorded with it earlier to upload to soundcloud.com. It didn't sound as good as I wanted it to. Maybe because the way it was recorded, plus I didn't have my regular amp.

Very good job, Ed. I enjoyed that. I'm delighted to hear your 35. That's my favorite of the standard series and yet I've never played the OM. I'd love to find one of those!

Very nice... thanks for sharing.

I agree about the "extremely beautiful" description. TE has a natural way of discovering certain notes that create wonderful tension. He has no formal music training, he just puts stuff together and usually starts with a chord shape that speaks to him.

Thanks Bud. Thanks for following me on YT also. I'm real new to YT. I have uploaded 9 songs I've recorded in the last three days. I plan on getting them all up. I like doing the intro's because it puts a personal stamp on it. I really love sharing the context for the songs, it seems to put a foundation there.

Very well done, Ed. The sound is clear, but I suspect that guitar sounds a lot warmer in person than it does in the video. It sounds excessively bright to me. I listen with headphones, so it might just be my system.

That was very nice - I do not know many of his songs, but this was great. Lots of different things in it - some really cool stuff, and good playing! The video is really nicely done, too - easy going and fun to watch.

I looked for a while and then two of these came up on Ebay. These were discontinued in 2007. My Favorite Guitars (MFG) special orders these through the Martin Custom Department. To my knowledge that's about the only way to get a new one. They list for around $3200 but sell at $1999 each at 60% off list. That's a steal for this guitar new, but it's marked Custom and doesn't say OM-35 on the neck block.

I picked mine up from an Ebay seller that didn't live too far away from me. In fact the guy I bought it from knew who I was. Small world. You can still find them every now and then on Ebay and plan on dishing out around $1700 for a used one in real nice shape. Mine was just like new when I got it. There was no evidence of mine being played at all. It was immaculate.

Thanks Bob. It is a bright recording since it is just the camera mic picking it up. I thought about doing some experimenting with Fender Acoustasonic amp with the bass turned up. I wish this camera had an audio input and then I could feed the sound I want into it.

Listen to it here and let me know if you think the Martin sounds warmer: Old Town by Tommy Emmanuel (cover).

BTW I did receive a comment that they thought the OM-35 sounded less bright and more bassy.
