Default 3 Lanes to New Jersey (original tune)

My mom is from South Jersey and we used to drive to the shore in the summers. My brother and I would sit in the back and as we crossed the Ben Franklin Bridge we would look at those magic words "3 Lanes to New Jersey". We both grew into huge Bruce Springsteen fans and I ended up going to college in Philadelphia and crossed that "pale blue rainbow" many times. We both used to talk about how Bruce should write a song called 3 Lanes to New Jersey but he never did. My brother has recorded 5 of his own albums and never took the title so on September 23, 2009 (Bruce's 60th) I wrote this song sort of an homage.

(lyrics below)
3 Lanes to New Jersey

Both pics of the Ben Franklin Bridge that connects Philadelphia with Camden and all points New Jersey!!

Pale blue rainbow

3 Lanes To New Jersey

Verse 1
Shots ring out in the City of Brotherly Love
But where is the mercy from your God above
Man lies face down on an empty Broad Street
I look in the eyes of every killer I meet

Chorus
(But) Tonight there’s 3 lanes to New Jersey
3 lanes setting us free
Yeah, 3 lanes to New Jersey
Come on Babe, make a run with me

Verse 2
Pack up our things babe let’s leave this behind
Hurry let’s do it before I change my mind
There’s things on the streets dear that’ll kill us tonight
You know it don’t matter, let’s give up this fight

Chorus

That pale blue rainbow is painted with fear
It crosses that river of blood shed and tears
That flows from the north right down to the sea
Take my hand baby cross the rainbow with me

Chorus

Great lyrics, well done, Roy! I'd like to hear this with a full band production! It could rock!

That's what my brother said too!! I think that he had forgotten all about it and was jealous that I took the title. I must admit that of all the songs I've written this is one of the few that I imagined a piano track carrying the song like Roy Bittan on Jungleland and a little organ a la Danny Federici (God rest his soul) carrying the final verse.

Cool song - you've been good and busy! Nice lyrics and the siging is great, as always. You are really getting an own style - which I always enjoy listening to. Your melodies always have somthing a bit sad to them, which is a very nice sound.

Very nice fotos, too, by the way!

Thanks Shawlie. Oddly enough I'm a very happy optimistic person but for some reason a lot of my music is a bit melancholy. In fact, I actually at times, force myself to write something other than sad songs.

Hey Roy . . . I've lived in Jersey twice so I can relate.

Seriously though . . . "3 Lanes To New Jersey" is a very good song and you performed it very well. You were able to project a very personal "coffee-house" style that I really like.
