Default The Songsmith - Love to hear your thoughts!

I was sitting in my guitar room one evening just looking around. It's a cozy little room that I get so much enjoyment from. It's a place where I get to fullfill my creative and artistic needs.

Well, the scene around me got my imagination running and this little story popped out. The video just seemed like a good way to give it some life.

While the story is a product of my imagination, the journel is real.

Hope you like it, and I would love to hear your thoughts.

The Songsmith -- Christian Carnucci

Intro:

Verse 1:
Old time guitars,
hung from the walls
A journal lies open at an unfinished song.

Verse 2:
Lines on a page,
weathered from age.
Handwritten words now, beginning to fade.

Pre-chorus 1:
I thumb through the verses,
penned through the years.
Some of the pages stained by tears.

Verse 3:
But I read ever line,
and I lose track of time,
as the words of the songsmith
dance through my mind.

Chorus:
Dreams he wove,
in the songs he sung.
A tapestry is what he spun.
The scenes described,
they came alive,
as he shared his life with everyone.

Intro:

Verse 4:
He sang about love,
fortune and life.
How they all slip away like,
a thief in the night.

Verse 5:
He sang about pain,
freedom and fame.
How every man's loss is,
another man's gain.

Pre-chorus 2:
The songs spoke of wisdom,
gained through the years.
of the trials and virtues of facing fears.

Verse 6:
He sang about waste,
redemption and grace.
How the wisest of all know,
the value of faith.

Repeat Chorus:

Intro:

Verse 7:
The stories went on,
as song after song,
he told of his life with his wife and his son.

Verse 8:
And through out the years,
one thing was clear,
family was most what the songsmith held dear.

Pre-chorus 3:
The evening grew colder,
and the shadows grew long,
when I found myself back at the unfinished song.

Verse 9:
So I picked up a pen,
and I read it again,
then I finished the song that,
my father began.

Repeat Chorus:

Outro:

Wow - great original! Sounds like a classic folk tune, with a great story like that. Really nice video, too - love everything about it!

That is GREAT!!!! I must admit some bias as ballads are my favorite songs because I love the stories. This one is absolutely great!! GREAT story and tune. This is hard for me to describe but it sounds like a song that would be "one of my favorite songs that nobody ever heard of". The nice ballads that artists record these days almost NEVER get played. When I was a kid, I'd buy a record (yes I said record) and find that the BEST songs were "in the middle of Side 2" never to be heard by anybody but me. This one sounds like a song that could be in the middle of Side 2 of a Dan Fogelberg album from when I was a kid. WELL done!!

Very nice, Chris! The song has a good story that held my interest right to the end, and musically I like the mando accents and sounds which gave it a more down home flavor. This one's a keeper!

Mmm, mmm, mmm. Gave me chills, and brought the mist to my eyes Chris. Particularly the last verse. You are indeed a Songsmith. Bravo!

Thanks Steve and Dave! I am so glad you liked it. I just can't describe how much I like writing songs and how much it means to know people are listening!

Thanks,

Chris

That was awesome, Chris. I echo Mr. Dave's comment as well. The ending got me.

I little more fill in the instrumental section would be good, but my mind was already playing a melody through there so it was hardly noticeable.

You're one of the top writers here, in my opinion. Very creative, like Shawlie, but still simple.

I am so flattered. Thank you very much!

And I agree whole heartedly about the instrumental break. The problem is I have no idea how to do scales/lead. I have tried books but I can't seem to pick it up. I plan on taking lessons one day, but as of yet, I haven't been able to find the time. But I know I just need to do it!
You'd figure after playing the guitar for 30 years I would have learned by now.

I've learned a lot by trial and error over my 30 yrs. I've recently started learning the blues scales and I've had many "a ha" moments. I now understand what I've known all along.
