Rick Beato has done a bunch of "Greatest Electric Guitar Intros", "Greatest Acoustic Guitar Intros", "Greatest (insert option here) intros" on youtube.
I can't say I always agree with him and often I've never even heard of the songs - seems to be very 70s/80s rock focused - but they are a fun watch.
Put "rick beato greatest intros" into the youtube search and you'll see them listed.

No video, but Country Joe McDonald and the Fish's intro to "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag" should be up there with greatest intros, ever, to a song (Woodstock version).

House Burning Down by Jimi Hendrix needs to be considered .

Well, if Rick Beato has anything to say about it- here is his top 20. I agree with a pretty good handful of 'em

But here is my favorite, and sorry it’s not an acoustic guitar intro. Blackened by Metallica. This intro was reversed after recording it, and the result was absolute genius. The video shows how it was recorded, and then reversed which is how it made it to the album.

Thank-you. I bought that cassette a few months after the album was released. I'll also add The Trooper (Iron Maiden, and there are many others that could make this list), The Hellion (Judas Priest), South of Heaven (Slayer), and Crazy Train (Ozzy). Not many metal fans here on the AGF.

I'm changing my tune. The Overture from Tommy, the Who.

All great songs with great intros. Glad to know of at least one metal fan. [emoji869][emoji38][emoji869]

You just warmed my heart. [emoji23] love PT, one of my favorite bands and highly influential in my songwriting. In fact, one of my songs I totally ripped off that riff. [emoji13]

Tommy Tedesco from the Wrecking Crew here. Reportedly, the Wrecking Crew recorded the instrumental components of a least a few Byrds records in the studio, built around Roger McGuinn's trademark 12-string guitar playing of course.

Can't help but feel I'm hearing Tommy's influence in Roger's epic intro to Eight Miles High.

I didn't like the first 1:45 intro but once the singing started it's a great, spooking intro. I didn't listen to the entire song though.

Pity Dru it takes a dramatically dark turn around the 6.00 minute mark which evolves into heavy metal by 7.00 but passes through the other side like driving out a fog into clear daylight, there's even an tasteful guitar solo.

Grammy nominated founder/writer/guitarist/engineer/producer/mixer & master Steven Wilson has also re-mastered and re-mixed albums by Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, ELP, XTC and Chicago.

The first thing that popped into my mind was the Long Cool Woman intro. Second was Venus, Shocking Blue version of course.
