I think it's also more easily justified if you are able to get rid of (or not buy) other outboard gear and use just the T1. But I guess if I already had one of the vocal/guitar pedals like a Play Acoustic or something like that I would try that with the Compact before getting a T1. You don't need the T1 with the Compact. I just posted what I did because someone asked for opinions on the T1. I did many, many shows through my Compact without my T1. It all depended on what mic and guitar I was using. If I didn't want to use a condenser mic (no phantom power on the Compact) and if my guitar had some on-board EQ then I could just plug straight into the Compact. If you really want to get nerdy about it you can solve the lack of a master volume on the Compact like I did. I bought different colored electrical tape and cut out a bunch of tiny triangles. I then spent time at home matching my vocal mic channel volume to that of the guitar and stuck matching colored triangles at all the different levels. That way, if I didn't want to use the T1 I could quickly and easily turn up or turn down and still have a decent mix. Yep, I'm weird! But it really bugged me to get all set up and do a sound check only to be told once the show started that I needed to be louder or softer and have to try and re-establish my mix on the fly. Disclosure: I didn't read all the responses here, so this may have been covered. I have been using a Bose L1c for almost 8 years. I did audition the SA220, but preferred the sound of the Bose; have no experience with the 330.
I also use a Play Acoustic for the BodyRez, reverb, and the vocal harmonies (previously used a TCH Gtx). For more EQ, I use a Fishman Loudbox Mini (instead of the Bose ToneMatch) and run a direct line out from that to the Bose. (I had the LBM before getting the Play Acoustic, so I still use it). Before getting the Bose, I had a large Peavey PA (15" speaker with horn cabinets) and a smaller Peavey Escort PA. While the Escort was small and all clipped together, it also sounded small. When I bought the Bose, I sold off both Peavey systems. There is a learning curve with the Bose - for me, I tried to run the volume at similar levels as my previous PAs... not necessary with the Bose. You get great sound and coverage without blasting out the volume. No monitor necessary. While I prefer to have the Bose behind me and to the left, I have used it almost right next to me. It is easy and fast to set up, and lightweight to carry. Most of when I play out are corporate/business gatherings, either for happy hour or after dinner. Mostly attentive, but the Bose keeps the volume levels to where people aren't having to yell to converse. Group size averages 100 or so, usually seated at tables. 60s and 70s stuff mostly - Beatles, Van Morrison, Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel... music people know and tend to sing along. The Bose has been a good fit for my use. |

Thank you for sharing that idea......I confess that I hadn't thought of it. I am pretty fond of my LoudBox Mini -- having owned and used one for several years now. So -- if may inquire further -- are you taking the XLR "Out" from the back of the LBM and feeding into the microphone input of the Bose? Does everything match-up okay, impedance-wise?

1. It sounds natural 2. Dispersion is wide, deep and even. Not too hot up close and falls off far away. 3. Off axis response is superb. You can stand beside it and hear yourself great 4. You can stand in front of it and get great nearfield monitoring while knowing what the audience is hearing across the room 5. Super Easy to carry, easy on the back. 6. The 1/4" input doesn't have EQ, but doesn't really need it. Sounds great out of the box.

Very happy to report the Bose L1 Compact has "lived" up to the reviews and reports here...
Very pleased so far! I have owned in the past couple months 2 other personal PA systems.. LD Maui 5 and Fishman SA220. I will say they all have their pros and cons.. But based on the few hours I have had with the Bose.. Pure sound wise, this is the most "Natural" sounding of them all! ....Very pleasing to my ears. Sounds terrific in my 20 x 30ft Rehearsal space. There seems to be more detail in vocals and guitar through the Play Acoustic. With that said... I will need an EQ or Mixer ... Or break down and buy the ToneMatch T1. Obviously there are no tone controls or effects. I am using the Play Acoustic right now.. Which is cool. But not too easy to tweak "on the fly". Last edited by JakeStone; 11-03-2017 at 04:16 PM. |

Thanks for the readout man. I've come to look at the Compact as a PA on a stick.

Check out the Behringer xr12 mixer as well as the T1. The preamps are really smooth and you can do so much more than a standard mixer

Which one do you feel needs EQ? Vocal or guitar - or both? I will get my L1C by end of the month and will try with: - Play Acoustic - Zoom A3 - Behringer XR12 - Mackie 802vlz4 - Combination of Play Acoustic and either of those mixers I am hoping the XR12 can be used as a stand alone. I am thinking the Mackie analog is the only component I could really, quickly alter on the fly. |

Ease of use is important .. curious if the Xr12 will be quick and easy to implement ? Hmmm. |

So right now, I am in the beginning stages of getting to feel the Bose out... I have been using my TCH Play Acoustic. Vocals are stellar... It is amazing how much "better" I hear everything. Even subtle sounds are much more pronounced and audible. If that makes sense.. I could def use some EQ on the guitar.. I was trying to mess with the Advanced settings on the Play Acoustic. But I may need to break out the manual. I may just need to tweak a bit and be OK. But the Play Acoustic has all the sub menus.. Again not so easy on the fly. So simple is better....... don't want to complicate things .. or add too many "extra" devices and wires........etc. The T1 is supposed to be really great.... but it is nearly $500 bucks with power supply..... XR12 is $225 on sale. (I have a iPad mini already). |
