Never had a maple guitar...but I’ve used Martin Retros to warm the tone of various guitars I’ve owned over the years.

Not to state the obvious but it's a Taylor (bright) maple (bright) dread, so I don't know how to make it anything but clear and bright.

That said, maybe try silk and steel strings. When I was trying to tame the jangle (and relieve some of the stress) on an old maple-backed12-string, they helped a bit. Not as much as selling it and buying a mahogany-backed 12-string though . I've also used Martin retros to change the tone on a dread, little less punchy than phosphor bronze.

I have a Adi/Maple slope dread that I use D'Addario PB 12's (EJ-16's) on. Works well for me...

I realize a Maple Taylor Dread would be bright, I’m hoping to take off the edge a bit..if at all possible. I’m going to give the Martin Retro’s a go of it. Thx Again!

Maple back and sides bring a very clean, no overtones type of sound.

Trying to compensate with strings might be possible, though I doubt it.

When I want overtones, I grab the mahogany back and sides (or rosewood).

When I want clean clear tone, I grab my maple back and sides.

I honestly don't think you can change strings to override the normal tonality of the wood, be it Taylor, Martin or Gibson.

All maple back and side guitars will sound clean (no overtones)

All the more reason to own two guitars (AT LEAST)

All in my opinion of course.

When I need to "warm up" a guitar, the answer for me is Monels.

I would try a set of Santa Cruz strings and maybe a thicker pick.

Try tuning down a half step. Try a thicker pick with softer picking technique. If you're using 12's try 13's and still tune down.

If you're paying acoustic electric try and EQ pedal.

+1 On Silk and Steel.

I spent a lot of time with friends in Monroe/Washingtonville back in the late 60's and 70's. I used to love hanging out there.

GHS vintage Bronze or SIT Royal Bronze should do it.

Mmm....

No one seems to have mentioned fitting a set of standard 80/20s. Something like Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20s or Martin Authentic Acoustic 80/20s.

It may say 'bright' on the packet but you will get a richer bottom end than PBs and less of the PB high frequency 'fizz'. They give more of the fundamental note and less overtones that PBs. I think 80/20 strings get called 'bright' strings because of the mid scoop they have, but mostly because they are a bright yellow in colour !!!!!

I expect many players have not tried good old uncoated 80/20s because of the 'bright' description on the D'Addario website.

It would be cheap test - and as they settle in after about 15 minutes of playing you'd know pretty fast if they are going to work for you.
