I’m thinking it is very likely the damage on those guitars happened at their shop. I highly doubt a 26 would ever ship out of Yamaha’s Japan custom shop with those sorts of issues. Those guitars are made to very high standards.

I am once again sorry to hear that...
Mine better be flawless as I am waiting far too long. Getting quite nervous after almost three weeks with very limited communication ("guy is not here", "we do not have that free gift", ...), payment issued at the beginning of the month and shipping price set to that covid "extortion money" level. The last thing I need and want is to get lemon... Would most probably lead to me selling all yamaha-something equipment I have (including two guitars) and never look back.

You’ve not properly diagnosed the issue.
The issue isn’t the brand it’s the method of purchase.

I know it is irrational. But I am talking about feelings. YML is owned by Yamaha Corporation Japan (through their European subsidiary), so I am buying directly from Yamaha. The company that is building its values and philosophy around customer experience and quality.
They are advertising special care and pre-shipment set-up (is is even included as a special item in order confirmation). So for me (and I think for Spineycat too) this purchase is a 100% brand related experience regardless a sales channel. Up till now I have met with very poor processes (vacation of one employee paralyzes complete workflow), I need to see the product yet. And we are talking about Martin D-42 price territory (at least in Europe). Last thing I want is (after waiting one month for delivery of an in stock item) to receive subpar product (as happened to Spineycat), lose the money on fees, returns etc. and to be constantly reminded. That is why.

So in my case the guitar is OK, they have botched the rest of my order...
