Default Hiss/Noisy problem with my amp/house. Help!!

Hi,

I have a hiss/noisy problem with my amp/house.

I turned off every possible electronics and unplugged all from the wall plugs in my apartment and I only plugged in my amp straight to wall plug (Guitar->Amp->wall plug) and I get loud hiss/noisy through my amp.

I posted up a clip on youtube.

I've used D.I ground lift, ground lift adapter, Monster Power Pro 2000 (which says 'It says 'The World's Most Advanced Power Conditioning') and surge protector but none of them worked. http://www.monstercable.com/power/Monster_Power.asp

The strange thing is that I took my amp and guitar to my friend who lives in same building and I plugged straight to his wall plug and it was silence. All hiss was gone even though all of His electronics were on.

I think I get pretty bad electric. My guess is maybe his apartment was renovated and mine isn't? or...it's because I live on first floor and he lives on fourth floor?

Do you have any suggestions? Should I get some kind of noise reduction pedal or power supply?

I'm thinking of getting a 'Ebtech Hum X Hum' but it sounds like same as the 'ground lift adapter' which I bought from radioshack and didn't solve the problem.

Thank you!

I'm not an electrician, but a couple of ideas from personal experience. Do you have any flouresent lighting? Turn them off to see if this is the propblem. It might be some other apartment on your grid is sending the hiss. Have you tried one of those 99 cent ground interrupters (converts three prong to two prong. Not a good idea, but it could tell you if its a ground problem. You might ask you Landlord to have his electrician check your electrical to see if they can help.

You might try a ferrite core choke:

Put it on the power cord as close to the amp as you can and see if it eliminates the problem. It often works on noise picked up by the cord (functioning as an antenna for unwanted Electro Magnetic Field interference).
