Default Freight Train

Took me a long time to learn this, I hope that you like it!

Very nicely played. Thanks for sharing.

If interested in some other variations on that tune
I have a free tab on my website.

Very well done! Keeping it simple and clean is the way to go.I hear Chet Atkins in your playing. At Caitlin Gable school many years ago, I also had the great pleasure of seeing Elizabeth Cotton at the age of 90, along with Mike Seeger.Did you know that she wrote Freight Train whilst playing her guitar upside down? She picked the bass strings with her index finger and the melody line with her thumb. She was left handed and so she just played that way and never looked back.

Yes and she was very young when she wrote it too. Amazing.

I thought that was great, Aaron! And nicely recorded, too.

Great playing! I bet it took a long time to get it that smooth - really nice!

Great tune and great playing - thanks! May I ask why you choose not to use a thumb pick for this style?

I’m sure it would sound better with a thumb pick. I just haven’t bonded with them yet and I would like to be able to play it st a gig without having to put one on. I will look into using them in the future though. I have to find one that is comfortable for me. Do you have any recommendations?

I really enjoyed that. Very nice. I’ve just added that song to my list and currently play it Travis picking in a very “straight up” form (c-c-g7g7-g-g-c-c-e7-e7-f-f-c-g7-c) I can learn a lot from watching your arrangement up the neck. Thanks for posting.

I like the Fred Kelly slick picks best, but I also found my tone improved a lot and became more balanced.

It sounds great as is..
