Default The Guitar Within an Arm's Reach

I'd love to see the photos of the guitar that you keep within arm's reach. For me at the moment it is my Godin 5th Avenue acoustic archtop. It sits by my desk in my work room. Ready to be picked up from my desk chair.

That guitar changes almost daily in my house. Mostly it's what I just played...

My guitar is across the room, I always keep a banjo handy(my primary instrument). This one is Rickard CVG(Carter Vintage Guitar Special), Silverbell tone ring, 25.5" scale. 1-3/8" nut, 11" steam bent maple rim, maple neck.

Three of my five are pretty much always in reach, as seen in the first photo. The 000-28EC lives in a humidified cabinet, right next to the chair I play in. My strat hangs right next to it. My Sable hangs right behind the chair, and there's another hook next to the Sable that I'll use for either the CEO-7 (in the photo) or SG when they're in use. When they're not in use, they live about a step and a half away, the SG on a hook and the CEO-7 in a humidified case sitting on a coffee table, as shown in the second photo. I'll sometimes switch up the 000-28EC and CEO-7, in terms of which is in the cabinet and which is in the case on the table. But rarely, because my 000-28EC is the only of my acoustics I actually like the looks of, so I tend to keep it within eyesight.

I like to keep ALL of my guitars in easy reach. That's one reason I don't want to have more of them than I do now - if I had more of them cased up in a closet or basement somewhere, I simply wouldn't play them. Better for someone else to own them. So, all of my guitars are within about 30 seconds of being in my hands, on my leg, ready to play. Except one - it lives thousands of miles away at my daughter's place in Oregon, waiting for me to visit, so I'll have something to play there. And when I'm there, it's on a stand right next to whatever chair I'm using to play...

My current office mate. Wish I could keep them all at an arms length but alas I have a wife.

Furch Blue OM-MM with Pearse PB & silk 11s.

I enjoy playing it so much that I haven't picked up my Yamaha LJ so often or an electric often hardly at all in recent weeks.

My Cordoba C5 is always nearby. Why the picture is sideways is unknown.

If something is going to sit out it is my mahogany Taylor GS Mini. I won't post a picture because everyone knows what they look like. But generally when it gets caught hanging out and in the way where it isn't supposed to be for too long it gets sent home to where it belongs. But it will eventually find its way back when no one is looking to where it is handy.

Here's my photo.

I don't leave guitars out of their case.

Still play daily. Both guitar and piano.

I have two stands where I swivel my chair and grab a guitar. I have one of my rotation on one of them, a mandolin on the other. I do not even want to stand up to get one off the wall. So it's my Texan, my Martin Custom D 35 or my 70 Guild D 35.If I swivel around and don't like what I see, the next in line comes out, gets restrung, and placed on the stand. Happens every four to six weeks.

Andy, Vintage Guitar Magazine features a Reader's Gallery page every month. I'm absolutely sure that if you send the magazine your guitar-collection photo it will be published along with a few other guitarists' photos. They like to have a little blurb about the reader along with the names of the brands and models of the guitars to post with the photo. You put all that effort into arranging your collection for your photo, let guitarists everywhere see it published in a great magazine!

Below is the September 2022 Readers Gallery page:
