I have a HD28 and OM28. I was playing only the OM28 (the OM28 was bought after the HD28) and was the thought that the HD28 was too big for me and hadn't played the less than an old HD28 for 6 months as I thought it was too big for me. I was planning to sell it. I picked it again for grins and discovered I liked it. Now I'm torn between which one to play. I also practice a harp guitar, a classical guitar and a piano. I practice 3-4 hours so I have limited time to dedicate to each instrument. I also am taking 3 music classes including singing and guitar private lessons.

I guess this is a good problem to have. I think I will keep it.

Regarding the cases, it’s striking how strongly I feel about it. I wouldn’t go near the molded plastic. I can appreciate their tough external skin, which a gigging player might value. But I’m not a gigger and mine stay snug in their room.

I would, without a doubt, graze the guitar against the aluminum rim while getting it in or out. I’m sure of it. I was happy that the essentially new 2018 HD-28E I bought (on Bilbo’s birthday, Bob, I might note) had the wood/tolex case.

Beyond that, I simply don’t want to adjust to plastic. Guitar cases have tolex skin.

And would you kindly get off my lawn?

I pulled my HD28 out of it's case last night. My mahogany guitars have been getting the playing time lately. Was loving it and she's moving into the starting lineup for awhile. Enjoy your Bob. She a 'beaut!

Wow Bob nice HD28!
I dig the undyed, mottled, variegated or whatever ebony. Au naturel!
Congrats on a beauty.

Default Beauty!!

Well done Bob, nice piece!
To me its a no-brainer, if the funding is at hand, I'd much rather have the guitar in my hands to enjoy than the money sitting in the bank deflating!

Are we turning you into a Martin guy after all these years? Play it in good health, Bob.

Ok, this settles it. Never thought of it like that, especially now. I’m buying a new guitar and increase the value of my money!!

How’s that sound, folks? Think my wife will buy that logic?

When I ordered my HD-28 through Jon at MFG a few years ago, I specifically requested the Geib case - I didn't want anything to do with the plastic shell case. It just didn't strike me as offering enough protection. Jon graciously threw it in to the deal. They are super nice cases, and for me, very worthy of the guitar (sometimes) inside it.

That's the way Jon did things...I miss that guy but my wallet doesn't?!? FWIW...I'm not a fan of the thermoplastic cases either.

Congrats on the HD-28 Bob...beautiful guitar!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, the thermoplastic case sticks out from the rest like a sore thumb and doesn't want to lean against the wall without a huge angle. I'll have to consider a replacement.

You know, that is a good question, and one I had considered. Am I turning into a Martin guy? I'm not sure. I still love my Taylors, especially the first really nice one my wife gave me as an anniversary present.

I think perhaps I am just a guitar guy?

Bob

And maybe the worse cases I've seen/used for "Latch Bite".
