Playing barre chords is like weight lifting. Use it or lose it
Mel Bays Rhythm Guitar Chord System I learned from the one above many moons ago.

I appreciate all of your tips btw, but I was really hoping to see some of you doing the challenge. Is there a reason why none of you want to participate? Did I make it too complicated maybe? Or do you think it would take too long? Maybe we could say that you don't have to keep going if you can do more than 10 minutes or so and don't have the time.

Quote:
How long can you do this? 5+ minutes. Did you use steel or nylon strings? nylon, classical action, rather than typical "crossover" action. What gauge are the strings you used? "high tension". How many years have you been playing the guitar in general? 47 years. While, as you said, it provides a test of a specific ability, I don't find it to be a particularly difficult one or one that is associated it with having attained a particular skill level. There are many examples of much more difficult technical things found in standard guitar repertoire, particularly classical and/or jazz. In short, I don't find that being able to perform the "test" is really indicative of anything meaningful. In the event that one cannot accomplish the task of the test for a "sufficient" number of repetitions, it might be meaningful to examine why not. |

Or perhaps a few repetitions of the Nashville Skyline Version of Dylan's "Lay, Lady, Lay".
