…of course if you’re gonna really nail it you’ll need an Ovation like Vince is playing here…..yeah I know he’s not playing the part or guitar from the original recording….but it actually sounds quite similar…..can this cat sing or what?!?!?!…

This is the simplest version of the intro and solos I have found. I like that I can slow it down using the Playback Settings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=albuop0R8XY I can always get more fancy once I learn the basics. |

I've been playing the solos on Amie for years.
Tempo is absolutely critical to play cleanly and true to form (even if it's not note for note). For me, it's one of those tunes that just doesn't work if played too fast or too slowly. Last edited by FingahPickah; 06-11-2023 at 09:26 AM. |

True, but Vince Gill wasn't in the band when Amie was recorded.

That's right.I saw Pure Prairie League in 79 I think, at a small college auditorium. we didn't know Vince Gill was in the band, but it didn't matter cause nobody ever heard of him yet? It was a great show.

You learn the solo note for note to familiarize yourself with the scales (major pentatonic). From that point forward you play it "close" to the original but not note for note that way your playing from scale knowledge rather than memorizing the solo note by note.

I have not heard the song before. The solo doesn't sound that complex. But if I was approaching the song as a solo guitarist/singer to add to my set list then I would build up the opening and lead break from open chord shapes and add more double stops and strums behind the melody to fill it out so it works nicely without a band backing.

Love it, but can't play it fast enough.
Love me some Craig Fuller. Another good Fuller lick (on electric) is on the PPL original of "Angel No. 9," which Fuller wrote, and which Mick Ronson covered on his "Play Don't Worry" album. |

Its funny about the Vince Gill mentions. I had expected that there would be a lot of video of the Craig Fuller line up playing this tune, but that Vince Gill clip is the one that tends to come up.
