Default Wired headphones vs new iPad (your experience appreciated)...

A question for the folks here: in doing music videos, I have been editing on either an iPad Pro or a MacBook Pro - both have a headphone jack. I am thinking about updating the iPad to one with at least an M1 chip. (I really appreciate the performance with that chip on the MacBook Pro.) It would mean losing the headphone jack on the iPad. Is there a problem with the latency for matching the audio and video when using wireless headphones?

Thanks in advance for your experience with this, and how you've worked around it, if necessary.

Wireless headphones will introduce some latency. Unless some new tech has come along and improved on how things were as recently as a year or two back, the latency is going to be an issue.

My wife has a new iPad and uses an adaptor cable so that she can plug in to the usb-C port, this should overcome any latency issue.

What type of interface do you use? Most will have some headphone jack for direct monitoring, no?

It gets frustrating trying to keep up with the constantly changing connections.

Simply buy a USB-C adaptor. You can even buy one that allows you to charge your iPad while using the headphones!

Here's an inexpensive example:

I know that there has to be some latency with the wireless connection to my headphones but I absolutely cannot perceive it. This is with Airpod pros, so it may differ depending on the brand of headphones you use, but overall, the new Ipads are great and the M1 makes for a very smooth experience.

Humm call me an old fuddy duddy but what would be the reason for using an iPad over using the the MBP ? I have always found my iPad cumbersome to edit on compared to a computer ...

Thanks for the responses, folks! Duh - a USB-C adapter: fast, easy solution. I am slightly embarrassed that I didn't know about this adapter.

I do use my MacBook Pro for final video/music editing, but the iPad is actually a better solution when using Insta360 cameras (the iOS app is better featured than the OS) and the Spire Studio (for recording music tracks).

My iPad Pro is a first gen - I looked it up: bought it in 2015. By tech standards, it is ancient! Still works for me, though.

I had one project I worked on using the Air Pod Pro2 earbuds when I first got them, that looked good... until I was done and that bit of latency sent me back to the MacBook Pro and the wired headphones.

I appreciate the depth of wisdom here!
