Lap Steel (6 String) String Suggestions
Borrowing a friend's lap steel. Wanted to tune to C6, but I could tell the strings on there wouldn't stretch that far. Put on a DIY hybrid set of electric guitar strings from the drawer, but they're a little light feeling and sounding.
What strings do C6 tuning players normally use? Thanks. Last edited by upsidedown; 08-21-2022 at 07:47 PM. |

I got this from the Steel Guitar Forum. It's pretty handy.
https://b0b.com/infoedu/gauges.htm Also, if you go to someplace like Just Strings you'll find C6 string sets are available.

Morrell Music makes C6 string sets
https://www.morrellmusic.com/collect...-steel-strings Can't say whether they are the best, but lap steel guitars are their main focus.

I use John Pearse c6 strings on my lap steel. They make sets for 6 and 8 stringed lap steels. Here is their chart you might find handy: http://jpstrings.com/brstring.htm#haw6

There's a chart of tunings vs. string guages at the page of my old website detailing lap steel construction information.
