Default Any good resources for learning electric guitar FX basics?

Anyone have any suggestions? Especially FX tone without an amp and just straight into the FOH mixer?

Thats a very broad question.. so here is my 2 cents...
1) Get yourself a good amp/cab sim pedal-- Mooer Radar or Strymon Iridium... both work really well.
2) use individual pedals not combined multi FX units.. those multi units are really good when you understand your soundscape.. but for working out your FX individual pedals are easier to work with
3) use really high quality jacks and leads
4) build your FX board slowly. I would start with a low gain OD/ Delay and reverb... once you have those nailed you can work out what the FX soundscape gaps are, and add those on
5) record everything you play.. rehearsals/ live/ practice sessions.. listen back to them with a hyper critical ear.. even better have someone else sit in with you on a listening session
6) getting the right sound takes time and effort,, a lot of it. As a working band we rehearse 3 times a week on top of minimum three gigs a week. .each rehearsal includes a session on refining our sound and exploring changes to it.....
7) eventually.. down the line invest in a Line 6 helix/ Headrush or Neural DSP Quad Cortex and relearn everything all over again ( the Neural would be my choice)
Hope this helps

I learned much of what I know about effects at guitar stores. YouTube is also a great resource. For example: https://youtu.be/RO43syy-9ao

Thanks for this link.

I’ve seen Rhett Schull advertise his guitar tone course, but I’ve never heard a tone on his channel that I preferred so I’m hesitant to pay. Also, I haven’t once seen anyone post anything positive about his course on the few communities I’m apart of.

I guess to each their own.

The YouTube suggestion is the best idea, IMO. There are literally hundreds of demos, comparisons, and tutorials on there, and you can dive as deeply as you want. Listen with your ears and don’t believe the hype. And if you’re looking at a pedal that’s been around for years, there’s probably a good reason for that.
