Gibson 70's model binding crumbling and falling off.
Had a lady drop a 70's model J-50 Deluxe Gibson dred and the binding is crumbling and popping off. Looks like Plastic or celluloid. Any suggestions on replacement and is it even going to be worth the time to replace the binding? Has a cracked bridge also but that is no problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mike

Stew Mac has what you will need. You might need 2 strips of the same color to make your correct thickness. It can be glued with CA.
I replaced the binding on a quite old Guild (or was it Gretsch?) guitar by removing, installing slightly oversize, and scraping to size. This way I was able to 100% avoid any refinishing and keep the repair more economical for the client.

Binding jobs can also go so wrong.
If the repairer accidentaly marks the finish whilst scraping it could end up being a big big repair job Steve |

That is why it is good to be skillful with a scraper, or not do repair work of this nature.

Agreed,
Out of the many things I would recommend someone to have a go at themselves, this is not one of them Steve |

Thanks for the help guys. The article Ed sent was a huge help and I will see what she wants to do. Looks like an expensive repair.
