Question Rogue 12 String 1st string 2nd Fret Problem

I just got my Rogue 090 12 string guitar and I am not getting a clear note on the second fret of the first string. What can be done to correct this?

Thanks for reading my post.

Wellsir ... I was attempting to put a piece of paper in the nut slot. As I was unwinding the high string it broke. I'm suppose to get a string winder in the mail later today. Hopefully it will be here and I will change all the strings. I'll try the paper and see what happens.

Why would that help?

With the exception of "back buzz", which usually happens on bass strings and usually with notes fretted well up the neck, once a note is fretted, the height of the strings in the nut is irrelevant. The relevance is only to open strings and buzzing on the first fret.

A non-clear sounding note on the second fret suggests that the second fret is too low or the third fret is too high.

Look carefully at the end of the third fret. Is it raised off the surface of the fingerboard, or fully seated? Press on it with the eraser end of a pencil and watch to see if it moves up or down. That will tell you if the end of the third fret is not seated and is popping up. If you want, you can put a fret rocker straddling the second, third and fourth frets, and the first, second, third frets to see if they are level. Likely not, based on your description.

You are correct, disregard my suggestion completely.

Question

I have to go out for a few hours, but when I get back I will check it out. What do I need to do to correct this? File the 3rd fret?

Thumbs up Changed Strings

Wellsir ... I put on the Martins M190 strings on and the 2nd fret on the first string will ring out now. I guess the strings that came with it were really bad.

If this is a new guitar purchased from Guitar Center, I encourage OP to no touch the guitar and take it back to the store for correction or replacement. I encourage OP to NOT attempt to resolve this problem first. This is not a high-end guitar and back-to-the-store for exchange may be what works best for everyone.

Arrow Didn't Get From GC

Nope ... didn't get it from Guitar Center ... got it from Musicians Friend through the mail. So I knew I would be on my own with minor issues, not worth sending it back for another one.

I'm pleased with it so far.
