Default OM with 1 11/16 a nut???

Looking for an OM with 1 11/16 a nut. It seems that a majority of makers make them with 1 3/4 nut.

Any suggestions for an OM with the smaller nut size?
Just an FYI: I do like the sound of the Martin reimagined OM-28s I have tried/heard.
I’m also a Furch Fan and can order one with the smaller nut size, at no added cost. But before i do I want to learn about my options.
Budget is around 2 grand and not opposed to used.

Brook. Almost all their guitars have the narrower nut width. The Brook "Taw" is their OM size.

Older -03 Larrivees (say before about 2001 or so) have 1 11/16" nuts instead of 1 3/4.

My Eastman E20-OM says it has a 1-3/4" nut, but feels way closer to what you are looking for. Actually, that is my only complaint with it.

The OM was the first change of direction for Martin way back in 1929, changing their gutar designfrom evenly balanced fingerstyle guitars to Rhythm instruments for the dance band banjo players - hence the 14 fret skinny necks.

The OM was designed as a response to the Gibson L-5 etc, but didn't cut the mustard and was discontinued shortly after, when the did the same redesign on the dreadnought. .

Rediscovered in the '70s (?) and favoured by some fingerpickers. Obviously for this purpose they should have a wider neck.

Your probably aware of this already but the newer furch vintage models will also have the soft V neck, which is a really nice combo with the narrow nut. Furch had originally moved away from the V to a lower profile neck in recent years but have since re-introduced it on the vintage 1 2 and 3 models. As youve probably guessed I would go for the furch as their OM's are really outstanding.

I wish I had some other models to suggest but 1 and 11/16 just seems to be out of fashion on most models these days.

You would probably need to stretch your budget a bit, but Collings standard neck is 1 11/16” on an OM. Used, an OM1 is not much over your budget.

Thanks for the history lesson
Fast forward to 2019......I guess the demand Is not strong enough to offset tradition, at least with the major companies.

I think the demand for smaller body guitars is mainly fingerstyle players these days, and most of them prefer the wider string spacing.

I agree on Eastman. If you have a dealer close by, try one. They (Eastman) SAY it's 1.75", but it's not.

Check out the special-order Martin 000-28H, regularly available at Maury's Music and My Favorite Guitars. I love mine! Has my preferred 1-11/16-inch short-scale neck, scalloped braces, herringbone trim, etc. Very full, rich, balanced sound, not at all what you might expect from a small-body guitar. Maybe the scalloped braces are why it has such nice tone and volume.

I got mine from MFG because their version had the ivoroid binding I liked, with that off-white color. Maury's version has the white binding. Minor difference.
