45% available (plugged in, not charging)
Anyone else get this message on their HP laptop?
All the answers that I find are only temporary fixes. The problem soon comes back. Lately I just unplug, wait a minute and plug back in. Then it charges back up to 100% for maybe 1-2 days. Thanks for any answers. |

Open Device Manager. Go to batteries. Uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery by right clicking. Reboot the computer and it should automatically reinstall.

I had this problem with a Dell and it turned out to be the power jack in the laptop. It was anchored in the case but the leads were IC mounted. Once the case was broken, the leads were bound to be broken. I had it repaired once and it failed again. The repair guy said it was a known problem and couldn't be fixed permanently. I retired the unit.

Laptop batteries are made of multiple cells. You probably have one or more cells that have gone or are on their way to going dead. Probably time for a replacement.

But the fact that this problem seems unique to HP brands only and Windows 10 only... A google search has lots of hits but no permanent solution. |

It's not a unique problem to HP.

Correct. I get biased fan boys (and girls) among our 750 employees pointing at specific brands but those sorts of battery problems show up with the 3 main brands of laptops we provision, and with the many portable type devices we have. Our intercom radios, telephone bridge devices and order picking guns all have same sorts of problems.
If the HP or Dell are business class, getting replacement batteries is easy. Once in a while the stuff made for loss leaders and discount sellers - craptops - will be more difficult and you'll only find 3rd party batteries but they exist. We have so many devices and batteries that I do fear buying cheap crap. We've had batteries swell, get hot and burn.

Thanks for the enlightenment.
Maybe it was just how I was typing it into google search. This laptop is about 6 years old. Never moved, used like a desktop. |
