Fishman Blackstack - nice sound but kinda quiet even for a passive mag?
I've recently installed a Fishman Blackstack running dual source with a K&K Pure Mini and overall I'm very pleased with the sound. However, I'm struck by how much quieter the output of the Blackstack is compared to the K&K. With them both being passive, I'd expected them both to have roughly the same output or the Blackstack to be louder, so it was something of a surprise.
Has anyone else noticed this or is it just mine? |

I'm beginning to think it is. I'd been wondering if it needs nickel strings or something but the user guide recommends bronze or PBs. The pole pieces were set by the tech and seem quite high up. I might try raising them a little higher and see if that helps. It never flippin' ends. :/

Well now, there's the problem! NEVER let techs adjust pole pieces. My old tech's motto was, "I fixed it so nobody else can fix it." |

My tech has been fixing my guitars for over 30 years... I think we're getting the hang of each other.

Like the old saying goes, "When in doubt, call Fishman Customer Service."

The output of the k&k is very hot especially for a passive pickup. For example if i run a passive mags gain at 1oclock, i'd run a k&k around 10oclock to match. ive used the black angel, m1, double helix, and the sunrise and they all vary slightly.

Thanks @WPTS, I'm getting used to the volume difference but it was quite striking. Somehow I expected the Black Stack to have a more comparable volume but it's not really an issue once it's gone into a preamp or desk. Sounds good though.
