Default David Gilmour to Auction More Than 120 Guitars Through Christie’s

I wonder if there are any acoustics. At least it's for charity.

His 1969 Martin D-35 is going on the block. I don't know of any others.

They’re estimating the D-35 used on wish you were here at $10-20k. They’re in for a lovely surprise. I saw him say once that guitar would be the last to go. Apparently times change.

Would some other motive have bothered you?

He's 72. If he wants to profit from the fruits of his labours of half a century, good on him. His motive for selling is irrelevant.

His motive for selling is not irrelevant. He’s wanting to drum up money for charity. Good on him. His stuff might sell for more because people know that. I think it’s rad, and it sets an example. Sure it’s his right to sell them all and just buy a bunch of crap, but he’s wanting to “make a difference” (his words, per the article). It’s nice to see. I imagine, sentimentally, giving up that black strat and D-35 is no easy task. Almost seems like a spiritual exercise in a way. Motive is enormous here. It’s great to see a rock icon with a generous heart at 72. Inspiring, really.

I'd very much like to have one or two of those guitars, okay, any of them
Some of those guitars, he has quite a history with, I'd have a hard time parting with them if I were him.
I think he's a class act.

His two guitars he used for "Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2," the '55 Les Paul Goldtop that he used for lead and the '54 Strat serial #0001 that he used for rhythm, are on the block, as well as the Black Strat and the one of the red ones he used on the Pulse concerts.

I think you misunderstand me. It's wonderful that he's trying to raise money for charity - in the same way that Eric Clapton's big sale did some years ago.

I just reacted a little to the OP's statement "At least it's for charity", as if there was somehow no other valid reason for the sale.

A little insecure about yer hoarding there, Dave?

Seriously though, what inside of you chose that as the most important thing to react to in this charity thread? It's awesome.

Gilmour's 12 string Martin used to write the song WYWH are among the acoustics.... and here are two more in the auction:

1969 D-35 bought off the streets of New York and used on Wish You Were Here album

1985 J-200 bought from John Illsley of Dire Straits

A global tour of the collection will launch in London at Christie’s (27-31 March), where the full collection will be on display. Highlights will then go on view in Los Angeles (7-11 May) before the New York sale preview (14-19 June).

I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live a few times so I probably got to hear a few of them in person.

I reacted the same way as you Dave...the words "at least" put a negative connotation on the sentence.
