And, if Andy does have a general disdain for all things Gibson? So what. We all have our own preferences, and likes and dislikes about all kinds of things.

This is not so much against Gibson, as one of their employees acting unwisely in making this video. As already said, he has, seemingly, recently joined the corporation, and was attempting to make his mark, in a way that many of us see a inappropriate. For the record - I don't have a disdain for Gibson, I regard the brand as important in the heritage of the guitar as important as Martin. My repeated disappointment with the brand has been in seeing the poor quality of various models when I went to the fewer Gibson dealers with the intention of buying one. My assumption is that whilst C F Martin went through some suspect quality issues in the '70s when they suffered a poor management/worker relationship, so Gibson has suffered under the leadership of a certain CEO. Gibson's are not cheap in the UK, and so I expect a certain build and presentation quality, (this has improved markedly throughout the market in recent decades), but my experience is that Gibson has not kept up with the market. Had they have been making qood quality products I would have bought a Jackson Browne, an L1 and an L-00 ...but as they were not of suitable quality, I bought a Santa Cruz and a Waterloo. I do own a Gibson - a 1934 L-4 as, it seems the build and presentation quality was somewhat better then.

LOL, "I don't have a disdain for Gibson" followed by 5 paragraphs detailing a robust disdain for Gibson.

If I was a guitar manufacturer, I would want Elderlys in my dealer stable. Somehow Gibson got into a "legal court snit" with the Lansing dealer about 10 years ago and faded from the offerings other than used stuff once in a while.
Gibson seems to be an excellent example of what NOT to do in marketing. I still like Gibson stuff from "back in the day" and they come up second in doing great Sunbursts! Fog Last edited by Kerbie; 06-24-2019 at 05:04 AM. Reason: Edited religion |

A poorly managed company, using primitive technology, mediocre materials, and no quality standards;
Rests on its laurels, whilst simultaneously offending all others with a superiority complex. |

Just a few weeks ago I played one of Gibson's newest basses, that DC short scale bass they just introduced, and was very impressed, to the point of almost pulling out my credit card (the only thing that held me back was that it only came with a cheap gig bag). After that silly video that Gibson hit us with I will no longer consider a Gibson as even a remotely possible choice in instrument brand to purchase. A shame, really, as after the bankruptcy and reorganization I had some real hope for Gibson getting back on track. I guess, that's not to be the case (hardshell, or otherwise ).

When that guy from Taylor was spouting off all that nonsense about how Taylor had invented a new design that made every other guitar in the world obsolete, I decided right then and there I would never even consider buying a Taylor instrument.

Insinuations and insults against any member of AGF will not be tolerated. Tread very lightly here folks. This topic has the potential to go off topic very quickly. The subject matter is clearly defined in the original post.

I just noticed it seemed mentioned frequently, so I commented on it. It wasn't personal. He didn't seem to mind.

Perfect Murph. The mandolin player in me was found to be thinking "So, Gibson also makes guitars?"

I agree with it. I hope they sue plenty and accomplish what they want to.
