Which do you prefer........
Maple or Rosewood fingerboard on your strats and teles? Is your choice governed by feel, sound, or looks? Or a combination of all variables?

Mostly maple for me. I just like how it feels and looks.

I like rosewood because I don't like the feel of maple when it's glossy.

I wish I had a strat or tele to have a preference
I love the satin maple neck with rosewood fingerboard on my PRS Feel and sound.

I kinda like the 'bounce' I get with maple, but there really isn't enough difference to cause me to have much preference of one over the other. If I have a preference over any of them, I'm quite fond of ebony...have it on one of my strats & really like it.
Maple does have a certain mojo that I like though, especially when it gets a bit worn; you should see my Strat clone from 40 years ago; that one also has ebony dots rather than black clay or whatever it is they use on maple boards.

They are both very nice. My Tele has Maple, but I would be fine with Rosewood.

I’ve played maple (lacquered and raw), rosewood, ebony, countless other mystery woods, and whatever composite magic Emerald was using until recently.
My fingers, quite simply, just cannot tell the difference. Aesthetics apart, it’s one of the least important factors in any guitar purchase I might make.

The perennial question on Fender forums!
My Telecaster and Stratocaster both have maple boards but my preference is based on looks only and not playability. (Like others have said, I too find little to no difference playing either/or). Some custom colours look better with maple, some with rosewood and some with either which drives my preference. Last edited by Steel and wood; 05-20-2019 at 08:11 PM. |

I had an after market Rosewood fret board/neck on my early 70s Strat for a while. But I switched back to the original maple neck. It felt and sounded better to me.
