Gerry and the Pacemakers were a real fun group back in the '60s' I always got a kick out of how high up he would sling his guitar. 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying' and 'Ferry Cross the Mersey' were two of the very few rock tunes based on a Maj7 chord.

Yeah, another one passes. I can recall easily those tunes ( it's like I've got a music player in my head) and they bring back fond memories.

Probably where I learnt to play major 7th chord. Sorry to hear he’s taken the final ferry.

Yes, he really did seem to use that open C7 chord up and down the neck. Sad one for me - he was one of the first acts I got into after hearing the Beatles.

Oh no! I loved his voice. I grew up on the music from the British Invasion. RIP Gerry.

Another one gone. Gerry always seemed like a good guy. I remember watching "Ferry across the Mersey" on "Top of the Pops" as a kid. The accompanying film always struck me as being quite poignant. RIP.

Being of a baby boomer, I am becoming inured to hearing of the loss of heroes and friends now, but I'll admit to feeling genuinely sad to hear of Gerry Marsdens passing.
I didn't follow his career, or buy his recordings but like the rest of the Liverpool sound, the Scouser characters were a part of my teens and twenties, and he seemed like a nice guy. 2020 took a great many fine singers and musicians from us see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._rock_and_roll Gerry won't be the last for 2021.

No question Gerry (and the Pacemakers)had his moment in time.
I enjoyed the songs, most especially “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying”, which we played in my very first garage band. They were pop and syrup but good at it. They’re all going away, one by one.
