Default New Original: "Barley Boo"

Hi folks...and happy weekend.
So, here's a little piece in DADGAD on the Bamburg FSC.

My wife named this.....as she does with many of my tunes. She's now retired and living her dream with work on our local farm several days each week. Barley was a big 'ol farm dog who greeted her at each visit as she called out "Barley Boo"!!!! and he came running across the field for his morning "hello".
Barley died last year, and this little "ditty" seemed a good remembrance of his unique spirit.

I liked that a lot Fred. Really nice piece.

Beautiful playing and the guitar has a really rich sound to it.

Wonderful Fred! That's some beautiful tone you are drawing out of that Bamburg guitar.

Really sweet piece, Fred! Very melodic. Though I didn't know Barley, I can just picture him. Old dogs like that with that sweet nature really do leave some nice memories behind. You have certainly painted a very memorable picture of him, Fred!

That is a lovely sounding guitar! I couldn't help noticing the octave pairs of strings you played occasionally in there, something that works so well in DADGAD.

Thank you, Barry! Yes, the guitar is surely a keeper! Bud, the fellow I purchased her from is quite knowledgeable about guitars and conveyed that he couldn't leave the Jeff's shop without the guitar when he first played it! It really has a big lovely sound...... only 15" lower bout....pretty impressive. The guitar vibrates all over when played.
Glad you liked this little tune....thanks for taking a listen!

Many thanks, Doug! As mentioned above to Barry......I'm super pleased with the guitar and what it gives me in both tone and ease of play.

Thanks so much, Glenn! Yes, the octave pair is something I've used off and on in DADGAD for lots of years. In this case it came in handy as I tried to break out of the first measures and add to this tune......and discover where things would go from there, and then move up the neck for the next section. Needless to say things had to evolve with this one....but I'm pleased with how it finally fell together.
Thanks again for listening, Glenn..........best to you and your wife.
Fred

A lovely tune, played well on a guitar with a noticeable ‘character’ - a fullness in the tone. The tune is almost instantly familiar, memorable, IMO a sign of a good composition. Thanks for sharing.

Just love this...have a soft spot for tunes written about dogs. My roommate is a fairly well-known modern fingerstylist who when I first moved in had an old Australian cattle dog named Skye who was a grumpy old dog but still had his own playful moments here n there...he would light up anytime I cracked open a beer or walked into the kitchen or started messing with the cat.. Anyway he died this time last year and he wrote a tune for him cause he’d always come into the studio when he was practicing. It’s in DADGAD (but for harp guitar) coincidentally, I think you’ll like it. First few times I heard it I teared up pretty bad. If you’re familiar with Tommy Emmanuel or Stephen Bennett, the lady who recorded their major albums recorded this tune, as well as his album..here ya go:

I’ll echo the comments on the guitar sound - really warm and articulate. Great tune and playing too - thanks for sharing

Wonderful, uplifting melody Fred. One of my favorites of yours! And it’s about a friendly old dog which makes me like it even more. I loved it!
