Default Best pick ups for overdrive

I've been told magnet pick ups are best for overdrive sounds on acoustic. I preferably want a sound hole pickup that can be easily removed to swap between different guitars.

There are a lot of good reviews for several manufacturers including the SD Woody, Mag mic, Fishman Neo etc.

I am aiming for the mild overdrive tones similar to John Butlers tone. Anyone any experience in what works best for them.

Humbucker or single coil??

Do you run it through a preamp or straight to an amp?

Some songs I play call for a pure acoustic sound for quieter passages but need to add overdrive for certain sections throughout the song. I know certain people like Butler splits the signal for acoustic and overdriven tones between Amps and DI/preamp.

Just curious to know what set ups people use that works well.

Thanks

I'm using a MiSi Trio (Baggs Element UST) for leads on classic rock covers with my duo. Right now I'm taking a Tech 21 Acoustic Fly Rig to gigs and using it's compression for leads. In the past I've used a Tube Screamer clone and I plan on trying out a Behringer GDI21 for leads this weekend. The typical UST sounds pretty good through an overdrive.

The GDI21 did not sound very good with my acoustic. It is quite good with my Les Paul.
