Default A Tyrannosaurus Rex with an F-4 mandolin

I'm a great fan of the Atlas Obscura website, which features articles, recipes and travel photos from around the world. It's all contributor-based, and the results can be wondrous.

WARNING: Visiting the Atlas Obscura website can be habit-forming, and it's easy to slip down the rabbit hole only to surface hours later after going from one featured location to another (to another to another to another....)

One of the places on there that I hadn't seen previously is a privately owned dinosaur sculpture park in Uncasville, Connecticut, built and maintained by its owner and artist Jeff "Fish" Wells:

Peaceful Co-Existence

https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/...dinosaur-haven

To me, it's a sign that someone who actually plays mandolin built the sculpture, because the F-4 is favored by those of us who appreciate the sweeter tones and warmer bass response of oval hole archtop mandolins. It's not a mandolin that would be likely to be chosen offhand by someone who simply had a random urge to put a mandolin in the grip of a Tyrannosaurus Rex......

Anyway, that photo made me chuckle, so I thought I'd share with you all.

Pretty cool. It looks like that T-Rex also has an appetite for tater bugs.

LOL.

Love it!

But I think some nail trimming might help his tone.

I wonder what gauge the strings are on a mandolin with a 5 ft scale length.

Now I know what kind of tiny hands they were thinking of when they designed the mandolin.

However, I was hoping for an all acoustic cover of something like "Jeepster" or "Bang a Gong." when I read the thread title. Someone bluegrass band must have done a T Rex cover by now.

Hey, I loved “Bang A Gong” when it came out! The lyrics were nonsense, but there’s no disputing that the guy had a pulsing sense of rhythm. It was one of those songs that was perfect for driving around doing nothing in particular, which is something high school boys do a lot of....

Yeah, which is why I'd think it would fit well re-arranged into bluegrass guitar/mandolin rhythm chops, add some tenor harmonies on the vocals and it'd just fly.

Oh well, a man can dream can't he.
