I just got one of these a couple months ago. Works great for most 12-strings. On thinner necks (like my Rainsong) it won't clamp down far enough.

For the brief time I owned a 12 string (traded it for a mandolin) the relatively inexpensive Shubb 12 string capo completely eliminated string buzz.

No Brainer. G 7th Newport 12 string capo with compensated sting pad.

It Works.

And no need to re-tune to play it.

I have one. Works fine on my Taylors, both 355 and 458e.

One caveat. It won't work with most Rickenbacker 12's because they are strung backward. Saw somewhere that Andy Powers is building them backward now. By backward I mean the octave string is the second string you encounter in a downstroke in the pair. That will coincide with V-bracing I guess.

G7th Newport 12 String Capo with Compensated String Pad on my Guild & Huss & Dalton - works a treat on both. However, a regular Shubb 12 string capo on my Gibson B45-12 - the G7th doesn't cope as well with the very thin Gibson neck.

+1. I have a Shubb 12 string and it works fine. It's not brass though.

I wanted to thank everyone for the input, this will lead me a solution(s) shortly.

I feel a little stupid in the fact that there are plenty of capos designed for the purpose and it proves that I didn't exhibit much perseverance in my web search. That being said, I would still have wanted to hear y'all's recommendations.

+1. The only capo I've used on a 12-string - a Kyser.

Hi, I have a D12-20 and a Harmony H1270. I use Shubb 12 string capos on both.

The easiest way is to fit the capo on the fret, but it makes playing a tad cramped.
I tune my 12s not to the nut, but make the shape of the I chord (usu a G or C) shape, and adjust so all are in tune when making that shape.

I have a Kyser, a G7th, and the heretofore unmentioned Paige 12 string capo.
The G7th is my favorite, and it’s easiest to use.
The Paige has little rings that line up to press down the EADG octave string and the bar contacts the regular strings and the BB & EE pair.
It works well. But it is very “fiddly”.

The G7th Newport 12 String Capo with Compensated String Pad
For under $40, you will not be disappointed. If your budget allows, the Heritage 12 string capo with the compensated string pad is just a notch above. But it is about $140. Kind of like buying an Elliot capo.

I am very pleased with my Newport. I use it on my Guild JF65-12. It works flawlessly.

Love my brass VICTOR 12 string capo that I use on my 1971 Guild F-312NT!

Just be sure that when capoing any 12 string you put the capo as close to the fret as possible. That will keep the intonation in line with where it needs to be.

I have one and it works flawlessly on my Guild F-212. Also on my Larrivee.

Won't work on my Rainsong (neck is too thin) and it's loose and slides on my Taylor. Even with the knob cranked I can't get enough pressure on guitars with thinner necks.

I just this morning noticed that with my new G7th Heritage 12 string capo, the ART technology works so well across the fretboard, that when I put it on the neck at the 2nd fret... the only string on my Guild F512 that needed to be paid attention to... to ring out clean (with a low amount of pressure).. was the octave bass E string. The rest were just fine without any rattling. I also moved the capo away from the fret by almost 1/4 inch, and it still played clean. The intonation held up well also.... I am sold on this one!
I have not seen any capo work that effortlessly with my 12 string guitars. I hope that the G7th Newport 12 string capo works as well... I will most likely grab one of them too!
