Interesting...or weird. I never even thought about it until now.

Maybe because I think of my motorcycles as modern day horses. Horses have names.
The last three in order: Sera, Saya, and now Sonya.

I tend to refer to my guitars by their descriptions, The Avian, the Seagull, the flamenco, the parlor. Who knows, maybe at some point I'll start calling them by their own names, too.

Would you trust your kids to name your guitars?
If they want to name a guitar, they can earn the right by learning how to play one of their own. Both "kids" are now in their 30's and sadly, neither have shown any interest.

There's a grandchild on the way, though. Who knows? Maybe he/she will want to learn.
His/Her grandpa would be happy to help out.

Well I guess it's time for me to 'fess up.

My Lakewood is called Nimue - after the Lady of the Lake in the stories of King Arthur.

My Larriveé is called Sylvia - its back and sides are silver oak

My Martin is called Martin - really? You want an explanation for that? Dude!!!

I once bought a guitar as a beater. My 3-year old daughter started called it bashey-washey. That worried me a little, though she never did bash it.

Ok circling back, as folks seem to be sharing the actual names ...

only two of mine have “offered” their names thus far - my old faithful Takamine G Series dread is “Rita” and my little Alavarez parlor is “Rocky” ... (and I just noticed they are both in Beatles song titles, though that’s not where they came from) ...

I would have expected to have some inclination regarding the Taylor by now but she hasn’t finished blossoming ...

I generally don't name my guitars or any inanimate objects. However, I mockingly named this one "Donald," and the name has stuck.

I named a few guitars, after I learned that my niece, named her saxophone (Gretchen). The habit did not stick with me, though.

My two classical guitars are Fancy and Freckles. My Guild D40 BG-Jubilee is Reenie. The others only have the model names given to them by the builders.

Don't anthropomorphise your guitars - they hate that.

Rank amateur builder here - my wife and kids have helped me name few:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/ruby16...7712845290837/

One is an ash resonator made from a tree taken from the top of the mountain that John Henry died tunneling under - so of course is named John Henry

One is built from osage orange, a hedgerow tree all over my rural Maryland county, and called the Osage Special

And one is inspired by the Florentine option that Gibson had in the 30's with pictures of Venice (not Florence) painted on the Mother-of-Toilet-Seat fretboard. I painted scenes from out Colonial Chesapeake town, Chestertown, and named it the Chestertone

I have a strat that my friend called Joe. Sometimes I refer to it as such.
A partscaster with a 1" neck. Best sounding strat I have had.

I also have a wild metal flake green PRS that I call my skateboard.
It's a fun color and it plays crazy melodies.
The trem always stays in tune, so rare.

But none of my acoustics (8) have a title.

After much soul searching , I have reconsidered and will name one of mine Gently Weeps
So after a good long "while" I'll finally be able to play my guitar

I only call my guitars names when I can't tune them
