The retaining bracket you refer to does not keep any tension on the strings. The advice of the previous person to use a capo is very good advice. If the strings come out of the nut slots, and you are not aware of it, snapping the neck in place can break the retaining bracket. Ask me how I know.

Not sure who you fly for, but we get a lot of overseas traffic in our airspace - I'm an air traffic controller, and work in the norther WI and MI airspace at Minneapolis Center, maybe we have talked.
PEX-CON-UAL. We probably have talked. Did domestic short hops for years, and transcons for the last 20..... 33 years total. It's always a relief to talk to you going West as your sectors are more than 5 miles wide, unlike the 124 frequency changes we have talking to Chicago Center.

Noted.... thanks! Not sure I have room for a capo in the bag, but certainly for a rubber bandy, or maybe I'll steal one of my wife's soft circular stretchy hair thingies. In black.

Another options is locking tuners. I installed Gotoh and is was a simple parts exchange--screw holes all lined up perfect.
