Seems a bit to much for what your getting - look at used handbuilts in our for sale section. Ive bought 3-4 guitars from their - some are fantastic deals.
and builder guitars have their own sound - you wont have a mass produced production made guitar. Thou i love my Martin Om28v , their is something special about my Mike franks .

Tobias Music is a local shop to me. They are absolutely fantastic to work with. Call them up, and ask to speak with Paul. He is extremely knowledgable, and extremely honest. You are in good hands with them.

Good luck!

Richard Thompson sings with his Lowden F made of Ziricote (another hard, dense wood) and Cedar. I'm sure there are a lot of YouTube clips of him singing with that signature guitar.

Here's a nice write up on Macassar Ebony:

That starting price includes brazilian rosewood. Macassar doesn't cost as much as brazilian. Might be worth your time to call him. I think he would probably steer you away from redwood and more towards a swiss spruce top if you want a guitar to sing along to, but he will build what you want and you won't regret it.

FYI...the Solace I had him build for me was sinker redwood and cocobolo. It was an incredible guitar for fingerstyle and sounded great when strumming...but like you, I want to sing along sometimes and the redwood on that large body was too dark and overtone rich.

Seems like a lot to spend on a guitar you haven't played.

Does not have to be a luthier build. I think for that kind of money travelling to a high end shop to try a bunch of guitars is advisable. More likely you will find exactly what you personally need. The right one hits you when you play it.

Honestly, this is not a good place to hang out if you can't control yourself.

This is a GOOD recommendation.

There are some small-builder guitars out there that are just killer, and because they have very little recognition, the used ones can be so inexpensive it's appalling. Conversely, this makes for super deals for customers who can play them before buying.
