Check out the new Molly Tuttle album!
Molly Tuttle taught herself ProTools and made this album during the pandemic. It ships at the end of the month. The producer and other musicians all worked in their home studios too. The album contains all cover songs. The videos are highly recommended. Wouldn't it be kool if this became her "breakthrough album"? Good job Molly!!!

I pre-ordered the album and am looking forward to it. It's really cool to see the breadth of her musical influences and that they extend well beyond the bluegrass world.
I really like her cover of Olympia, WA which will be on the album: |

I first noticed Molly Tuttle in a Waterloo guitar demo video on Youtube. I've been a fan ever since. What talent!

I pre-ordered my signed record, too. She's just great. So great that it's painful to know I'll never be able to play like her. Just phenomenal.
Also, her lessons/tutorials on YouTube are really great and she seems to be a really good, clear teacher. |

Great video. It's so great that all the Tuttle kids got steeped in this at an early age. So many of today's new/newish blood benefited from some natural knack and early exposure and nurturing. Tuttle, the Watkins siblings, Chris Thile, Sierra Hull,...all prodigies.

I really enjoyed listening to her version of Neil Young's Helpless.

Just got my download link for my pre-order from Compass Records. Going to load it on my phone and go for a walk before it's too hot to move around here.

That is so cool. How many bluegrassers do you hear covering Rancid? Molly is awesome.

Video for Olympia, WA is unavailable. It's been removed.
Here's a recent live version from the Grand Ole Opry telecast of a few months ago. By the way, I like Molly's cover of She's A Rainbow (first video in this thread), but not a fan of the actual video.

Don't get me wrong: I love Molly Tuttle. I have enthused over her to everyone I know, have bought everything she's put out and been to see her live twice, but the album is a bit patchy to me. Some of the tracks are really good - 'She's Like A Rainbow', 'Olympia' and 'Standing On The Moon', in particular. However, the Cat Stevens cover was disappointingly a bit so-so and why she chose to do that Harry Styles track?? The verse section really works, transforming something lame into a half decent song, but the chorus didn't fit on the original and her arrangement is only a little less jarring. I also think it was a shame she didn't tack on her cover of 'Helpless' with OCMS. I look forward to her doing original material again or perhaps a collaboration album with Sierra Hull, Rachel Baiman or Anthony Da Costa, with all of whom she's worked in the past - one with Billy Strings might just be a little too full on!
