All C&W music from, not including modern country, back in time to Gene Autry and back further are great played on any instrument. Old country tunes sound great on accordion and the piano. As I am re-learning guitar I play all old country tunes.

Let's not forget bluegrass, folk, and old mountain music.

Wow, all of the above is such great stuff for an acoustic guitar.

Yes, I am an old bugger - do you remember the tune that starts out "There stands the glass, it's my first one today, it'll ease all my pain. . .and something like that. It is the first country song that I can remember hearing on radio.

I really don't care too much for country music anymore, but when I was learning to play guitar in the late 80's/early 90's, that's what I was in to. Plus most of them only have 3 or 4 chords, so they were great for a beginner. Here's some I learned in my first couple of years playing guitar. Many of the sappy ones were learned to woo the fairer sex.

Pancho and Lefty - Willie Nelson
Blue Eyes Cryin In The Rain - Willie Nelson
You Are My Sunshine - Jimmy Davis (He's known as the "Singing Govenor" here in Louisiana)
I Saw The Light - Hank Williams
Walk The Line - Johnny Cash
Family Tradition - Hank Williams Jr.
A Country Boy Can Survive - Hank Williams Jr.
Can't You See - Marshall Tucker Band (does Southern Rock count?)
Fire On The Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band
Ballad of Curtis Lowe - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Take It Easy - The Eagles (not exactly country, but sort of)
Lyin' Eyes - The Eagles
Do You Think of Me - Keith Whitley
Tell Lorrie I Love Her -Keith Whitley
Does Ft. Worth Cross Your Mind - George Strait
You Look So Good In Love - George Strait
Baby Blue - George Strait
The Chair - George Strait
He Went To Paris & Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet (not really country but in the same vein)
You Never Even Call Me By My Name - David Allen Coe
Who Says You Can't Have It All - Alan Jackson
Midnight In Montgomery - Alan Jackson
If Tomorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks
The Dance - Garth Brooks
Unanswered Prayers - Garth Brooks
Thunder Rolls - Garth Brooks
Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks
Down in Tennessee - John Anderson
I'll Think of Something - Mark Chesnutt
Anymore - Travis Tritt
Here's a Quarter - Travis Tritt

I'm sure there were a lot more than this, but you get the idea.

Haven't seen "When I Stop Dreaming" by the Louvin brothers.

A couple of corrections: "Pancho and Lefty" and "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" were covered by Willie, but he didn't write them. "Pancho and Lefty" was written by Townes Van Zandt and "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" was written by Fred Rose sometime in the '40s. Willie's cover is the best of "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" IMO.

When it comes to Townes, no one can top hiim performing his own songs. I've been sitting here on break at a temp job listening to "Live at the Old Quarter" on my MP3 player. Recorded almost 33 years ago and still timeless.

I love Townes so please don't take this as "picking a fight" but I love the cover of "No Place to Fall" performed by the "Little Willies" (a group that includes vocals by Norah Jones). If you get a chace to listen to it I think you might like it better than Townes version. He is great though. I play lots of his songs.

I play a lot of his songs as well and would never take what you said as picking a fight. Don't get me wrong, I like other people's covers of Townes' songs. I heard him live a bunch here in Austin and just got used to his whole persona and delivery. One of my favorite places to hear him was a dive down on 5th street called Spellman's. Cover was only a couple of bucks and beer was less than a dollar for a Lone Star Longneck. I'd have savored the moments a lot more if only. . .

Aloha.

Salt Creek is the best guitar country song of all time. Doc Watson, Norman blake and Tony Rice. Just three guitars friends on a classic fiddle tune from the 1800's!

I couldn't get the link to download here. But please check it out.

Oh Yeah? Name one better!
