Default EAE Gigmix Vs. Mackie ProFX6v3

I'm thinking pretty seriously in getting the Gigmix mainly because of size.
For my use one vocal and one guitar it sounds perfect
But the Mackie looks great also and it does give a bit more for $50 less
I guess what matters most is the sound quality and how good the effects are.. in each unit
Anybody have any input,, it would be appreciated as I'm working on my equipment for playing out...

The Mackie unit includes 2-band EQ. I find that acoustic guitars nearly ALWAYS need some level of sweepable mids, or some parametric EQ, at a minimum. I'm sure this would be fine with active pickups with onboard EQ.

On the other hand, I've never been very good with digital mixers when I'm doing my own sound live. I get agitated easily when I have to fumble through an interface. I think the EAE is supposed to be relatively easy to use. I would watch the demo videos and determine if you can see yourself using it. Otherwise the EAE would be my choice from a feature standpoint - especially if you are a set it and forget it kind of player.

Mine just arrived last night and I stayed up until 1am playing with it using headphones. I've only tested it with my Fishman Powertap Earth so far but for managing the mag and SBT separately, it works really nice. It wasn't hard to learn and the EQ is effective, though I only had to use a little on each channel when using the compressor. A splash of reverb on each and a little delay on the mag and it was a really nice sound. And this thing is small with a tiny "s." Remarkably good value for the money and size.

The only "downsides" I can think of would be if you require a DI out or you're a real effects/pedal junkie. It has two balanced outs (left and right) but you will have to use a TRS to male-xlr jack but I don't particularly think that's a problem but others may. If you are a pedal enthusiast, you might not enjoy its nature or effect quality but I think for a fingerstyle player, such as myself, who wants big sound that's fairly natural and only subtle enhancements , it's an outstanding piece of gear. I might have to get one of their battery powered amps in the near future.

Yes, I'm a set it for the room and that's it, I don't want be playing with, set it and play

I want a unit that does it all, and nothing else needed unless a acoustic preamp, maybe

I want to have min gear, like a mic stand, PA speaker... Everything is mounted to mic stand

I absolutly love my zed10fx.
its small by analog mixer standards
and it sounds great. Im about
to venture into another phase
of my life. Wife and I are going
to fulltime rv. I need to downsize
my live music rig considerably
and since im going to be a solo
performer i have ordered one
of the gigmix from eae.
its been shipped from the left coast
and should be here shortly.
i will of course a/b it up against
the zed. Ive owned a d68 amp
for years and like it but this
gigmix will allow me to sell
that . i will pair it with a cp8 and
see how it works. For me living
in an rv its all about space.

So far the EAE is nice,. Still learning but my guitars sound good through it, . Acoustic and my Epiphy ES339-P90 I mainly play clean anyway but I haven't tried a pedal through yet
Vocals sound great no complaints there
I'm running it into a Headrush 108 FRFR speaker
I think I'll get one those mic stand trays to set it on for gigging....
It doesn't fit secure enough in my cell phone holder that's apart of the tablet holder, maybe a different brand., we'll see.

A few comments on the Mackie ProFX6v3 as that mixer was what the thread starter initially mentioned as the alternative to the Gigmix. Unfortunately the ProFX6 is pretty limited compared to it's bigger siblings (like the ProFX10). Besides only a 2 band EQ it also lacks the compressor of the ProFX10 as well as only having an on/off switch for the effect send. If it wasn't for these 3 limitations with the ProFX6v3 I would have bought it a long time ago.

So maybe the ProFX10v3 is an alternative?!

A nice thing with the ProFx6v3 and ProFX10v3 is that they are powered with 12V DC making it's easier to put together an external battery pack for them. Most mixers with an external power adaptor use AC.

/Per
