Default Lowden Bushmills X-- What a Dream

Lowden has come out with a limited edition guitar made from Bushmills Irish Whiskey barrels, sinker redwood, and ancient bog oak.

For details: http://www.lowdenguitars.com/bushmillsxlowden

This will fuel my GAS and WAS simultaneously.

I received the Lowden email on it. "... only eight are available to buy". I'm guessing the cost is out of my range by a factor of many but I'd love to try one.

Nah, just get stuck into a bottle of Bushmills. You'll soon forget the guitar!

Hi Merlin,

All of the appointments are made from Bushmills Cask oak. As we were cutting this wood in the saw, the whiskey was quite literally dripping out of it. The entire workshop smelt like Bushmills. It was incredible!!

The guitars themselves smell great but I suspect that the hint of whiskey is lost to the rest of the wood and lacquer.

How was this glued up properly if the wood is still wet and saturated with whisky?

The Whiskey only permeates approximately 50% of the barrel wood otherwise it would be oozing from the barrels.
So when we cut it we take the dry half and work with that piece. It still smells incredible though!

And when you finally put down your new guitar you can enjoy the bottle of Bushmills that comes with it in this hand made display box crafted from Sinker Redwood, Pine and Bushmills cask oak!

Its quite interesting to see oak featured as a tonewood, frankly the first time I have heard about it. Reading up a bit on this it seems that oak was quite common among Stella guitars, and large pores may be an issue with it. Did the use in casks affect the pore size and other features of the wood?

Lowdens are nice guitars, but I wouldn't go for the Bushmills hype.
