Default Where do you hang out in AGF? The TOP 5

I'm one of those who looks at the periphery, the edges of things, and a curious sort in general.
So today I was wondering about what areas of our forum get the most views, where do folks hang out?

So I looked at the specs posted over to the right of my screen and found statistics showing the Top 5 most visited areas of AGF.
Here they are, rounded slightly up or down, and in descending order of posts as of 2-5-18.

General Discussion--
184,700 threads .. 2,931,400 posts

Open Mic--
30,100 threads .. 653,000 posts

Acoustic Amplification--
32,700 threads .. 325,100 posts

Show and Tell--
28,900 threads .. 232,300 posts

Classified Guitars For Sale--
18,900 threads .. 165,000 posts

In viewing these numbers, obviously most of us spend a lot of time in the General Discussion section.
Not a big surprise.
The statistics clearly indicate, by an overwhelming margin, that we spend most of our time and attention there.

But looking at the other segments, one thing caught my attention--
The thread/post ratio of Open Mic is substantially different than the others.
We apparently like to respond to things in the Open Mic section.

Like most of you, I spend most of my time in General Discussion.
Then I glance through AGF Classified - Guitars, (seemingly the least visited of the top 5) followed by Open Mic.
I don't post there much, but I enjoy reading there.

Statistics show what they show, but they are not the whole story.

So I'm curious, where do you spend your time on AGF?
Is your track record reflected in the numbers?
Or do you hang out in the fringes?

Or perhaps you're all thinking..
"Gee, I wonder how much snow fell at the woodbox house?
The cabin fever musta got to him if this is what he has time for."

Perhaps I need to get out more.

(would that be a thread for OpenMic?
Or General Discussion hmmm... )

I just hit 'New Posts' and see if something looks interesting on the first page, regardless of where it is in the forum...

Generally, I look at the general discussion in the morning, come back to it in the evening, then go on to Custom Shop, Amplification, and the guitars for sale. Once week or so, I look in at open mic.

Hi Woodbox,

I go to SHOW & TELL almost right away to see what's going on there. I have started a fair amount of threads based on my YouTube recordings in that section, and so if someone responds to something I did, I want to make sure to acknowledge that with a response in return. I'm also curious about new threads there, but I don't always have time to listen to new stuff except perhaps once a week.

Then I go to the General Section and see what's cookin', then to Open MIC.

Sometimes I will check TODAY ON THE AGF to see what's new.

Sometimes I check out what's for sale. Lately I have been checking out the RECORD, PLAY & WRITE, LISTEN, and ELECTRIC GUITARS sections.

I don't think I have ever checked out ACOUSTIC AMPLIFICATION, but that is not my area of interest.

- Glenn

Unless I am posting a new thread, my only “group” is page 1 of Today on the AGF. If it ain’t there, I don’t see it.

Anytime I come on the site, I hit "new posts" and scan through those for items of interest. If I'm researching something, I'll sometimes dive into a specific sub forum and/or do a search. Last summer was the first time I'd ever even HEARD of carbon fiber guitars, and I spent a LOT of time in the carbon fiber forum learning as much as I could about the various options, following various clips to hear some of the guitars in use, etc. Now I've sold off my wood guitars and have a couple of carbon fibers and I'm not shopping for anything else, so I just hit new posts.

'Today on the AGF' for me. That's how I found this thread and also why subject lines are so important.

I hit "NEW POSTS" and load all the available posts as tabs in Firefox, thus creating a snapshot of the AGF at the moment. I developed that habit when I was the administrator.

Thanks for the tip on "New Posts," never noticed it before. That'll save me a lot of wear and tear on my mouse.

I do the same, and also pop into in ‘Show and Tell’ and ‘Record’ in case I missed something interesting if Ihavn’t been in for a while.
