Did I hear the closet doors open? It is a bit of a challenge for me to maintain discretion re who a guitar is for while displaying its build in a public forum. Kind of fun too, is a spy vs spy way. But my actual nature is not to hold back, as you’ve probably noticed.

I put the third coat of Oil Varnish onto Jmat's guitar today. The two pictures below are taken with two coats, outside, before the fog cleared.

That back looks to have some jumbo sized pores, or is it just an illusion from the gloss of the varnish?

Surface tension makes the pores look bigger than they are on the first couple of coats. It takes me 7 coats to get a flat and buffable surface, typically. I don’t even try to level until after the third coat.
My daughter, Laurelyn, is in Portland OR apartment hunting and left her dog in Sacramento with a friend. The dog got away while being walked. My wife, Linda, and I are headed up to Sac to attempt damage control. Not what I thought I’d be doing today. |

Seems like a miracle, but we found the dog and he is back with Laurelyn! He had traveled 4 miles. I am home after a long day.

Mickey traveled away from Laurelyn’s apartment through mixed residential and industrial use city. He had rolled in a variety of un-nameable semi-liquids. We took him straight to the Petfood-Express dog washing facility. The young man who actually chose to recover the stray and have his chip scanned seems like a saint to me. He would not accept any recompense. Although Linda and I did spend hours searching for Mickey it came down to the kindness of a stranger.

Glad you found the dog. It's heartbreaking to think of a dog lost over night, even though he or she may have been having the time of their lives, once that sun goes down.... Whenever I hear of someones dog getting loose it makes me think about if my guy was out there.

The Pernambuco OM is buffed out and assembled. I cut and installed the inlay, and I have fretted it. Hope to get a bridge made and glued on today, in which case I may hear the guitar tomorrow!
The fingerboard is Bois D'Rose which is not nearly so dark as ebony. Probably use it for the bridge as well. |
