One time I actually brought 5 guitars to a gig and played them all!

I only bring the two I now have to most gigs but sometimes I will just bring the 6 string.

Also add a Mandolin to the list, but the question was how many guitars.

This. I may bring a 2nd 6-string if I plan on playing in any alternative tunings, but it's usually just a single 6 and a 12.

i will keep things as simple as possible. i only bring one acoustic to a solo gig, and i only bring one bass to the band gig. why bring more? i have only broken one string while performing, and that was on my bass while in a rock band in the 80's. ( i think my hair got tangled in it and the string broke while freeing it. )

If it's my typical solo gig, I'll take two; my 6 and 12 string acoustics...

other than that, I'd bring what's needed to cover the gig. Extra strings but no "back-up" gutar in case I break a string. I can't remember the last time I broke a string while playing on stage, if ever...

I have been traveling light for a little over a year taking just 1 guitar. Since the GPCPA1 took the main gig'n spot I'm planning to start taking a Dread for flatpicking songs. Not that the GPCPA1 doesn't handle flatpicking (it does well) my playing is cleaner and faster on 1 11/16 guitars. The hard part will be forcing myself to switch guitars during a set.

Most of my gigs are 2 hours or an hour an a half and I usually like to keep things going. In the past any 2nd guitar would be just in case something went wrong with the first choice. We'll see at least I have a plan.

1.In the band it was 2 electrics, 1 acoustic (was the Guild D25m, now the Lowden)
2. At church; 1 acoustic ususally the Lowden
3. Few times I'd fly, like to S. America , 1 acoustic (the D25m)
4. Now solo just 1 acoustic (Lowden usually, but Goodall ocasionally due to feedback in some places)... I very, very, rarely break strings, my hands are dry so they don't eat the strings and I regularly smooth out any burs on my saddles. The older I get, the less I want to carry. Those days of haulin' amp stacks and the like are over says my back!
Interesting poll, may I add does everyone bring an amp or use P.A.? I try to run direct if possible depending on the situation. Like church was easier to go direct for me. Also has anyone tried the "Lunchbox" amp?

One dread, one OM, both get played.

If there is a chance I cannot mic I'll add my OMC-Aura, or if I know I cannot mic I'll only take the Aura.
