My X-20 was built just over a year ago. Here is the timeline based on email exchanges with Emerald:

Nov 15: Order submitted
Nov 30: Build had started (don't know exact date when, just that on this date it was being built)
Dec 15: Over 1/2 through the build
Jan 5: In the finishing room
Jan 20: Shipped

Their quoted time from order to ship was 2 months at the time (including a holiday break), and they hit that pretty close. Given that the build started sometime after Nov 15 but before Nov 30, the time it took to build was between 52 and 65 days, assuming I counted correctly. I ran out of fingers.

Take off a few days for the holiday and call it 60 days - or so. But of course that was a year ago so YMMV.

But how would one know when they start building? They never told me.

I asked them after confirming my order changes if they had an estimated start of production and they came back with it has already started.

The fan fret X10 Slimline in black CF is, to me, a perfect example of Emerald’s craft.

I ordered my custom Virtuo on 11/29; I received a confirmation email; on 12/19, I received a detailed email about my guitar entering the molding process; this Monday (01/23) I received an email that my guitar was in the final set up phase. I’m hoping it will be in next week’s shipping video but will just have to wait to see.

I can tell you from experience that it should be worth the wait...

Good to know. Thanks! They must have upped their game in the last few years.

I'm on roughly the same timelines. I received the final setup mail for my custom x20 1/26 although my entering the moulding process email was only two weeks ago but my order time was from cyber Monday. Hope to see them both in the video this week!

I think Emerald took a week to 10 days off at Christmas; I ordered mine on Cyber Monday as well; yes, fingers crossed that we’ll see both our guitars in the next shipping video!

Hopefully it'll be 3 of us.
I got confirmation on 1/26 that my X20 is out of paint & polish and headed to final setup.

It’s great that Emerald is sending these updates - I hope it’s a regular thing for all custom builds now.

Back in 2018 when I bought my first one, the practice was to pay half down when placing the order, and then to wait for the email asking for the balance - the so-called ‘ransom note’

I could always get a progress report if I asked, but proactive notifications are much preferable.
