This guitar is really something else. The f-hole/soundport detail is very creative and good looking!

A really interesting build in progress here, almost conservative compared to some of Thierry's past output! Thanks for posting the Romanillos videos, I really enjoyed seeing and hearing him. I also enjoyed your chat with Michael Bashkin on his podcast.

After developing a new model with Jason, you're now venturing into the acoustic archtop space... you sir are always up for a new adventure!
A fun and original one to follow, looking forward to its development. cheers, Tom Last edited by Vaillant75; 05-15-2020 at 12:35 AM. Reason: typo |

It's true, compared to some of the instruments Thierry has made, (or indeed is making at the monent!) this is quite "reigned in". I should say that while it's a collaboration, Thierry gets final veto about any of our ideas, it is his guitar after all! Quote:
Thierry is an artistic outlier in every positive sense of the word and that's why the offer to collaborate with him on this instrument was too good to pass up - I've always felt that if I'm not learning I'm stagnating and this was a wonderful opportunity for learning. Thank you my man! Glad to have you here for the journey!

Well, recently I've had a lot of messages asking what happened to this guitar so here is the finale along with my very best wishes to all of you for 2022!
The guitar was completed, as you can see in these pics - it's a beautiful example of Thierry's work! With pick guard And without Some wonderful Ziricote And the headstock! I go into some detail in this video where you will get the chance to hear the instrument (it sounds wonderful!) - I hope you enjoy it! All the best Michael

I am wondering how that magnetic pick up works with Nylon strings?

You're very welcome Dave- thank you for watching!
That could pose a problem... thankfully the guitar is strung with steel strings!

A word from Thierry -
Hello everyone!
When Michael originally posted this thread, he warned me not to get involved; That a luthier himself could easily extinguish the fire of such a beautiful thread. So, I'm writing to you to firstly share my gratitude to Michael (Thanks mate!) for investing his time in this thread. I would like to take this opportunity to provide a quick update on the birth of the Clara Archtop and on my current work - especially with regard to my involvement within the AGF. AGF: It is likely that I should participate in this community and make my work more known here. I appreciate the platform and sometimes use it as a source of technical information... Regarding any form of promotion - direct or more subtle -, already on social networks I am quite present and consider that I do it there spontaneously - with the primary idea of simply sharing my work. Clara and other Archtops: It's quite true to my style to have sold the Clara Archtop quickly at the end of my project (in this free collaboration with Michael). I would have really liked him to be able to play it. In reality I did what I had to (in times of pandemic) to keep my practice in momentum. As some of you know, my work is marked by an artistic approach, varies enormously from project to project, and, ultimately, is not commercially oriented, although I take care of my clients to the best of my ability each time. So! There will be a continuation of the Archtop theme. Lately I have the immense chance to be part of the next batch of instruments which will be part of the next -The Blue Guitars- collection. It's truly an honor, I'm in the design phase and concentrating on it. I have here perhaps the opportunity to have more coverage, demos, in terms of Archtop. Yes! Thanks for being patient with me! In short, I make about 5 or 6 guitars per year. This since '98. To see and hear my work in full, my website is the best place. I thank you for reading me and wish you on this snowy day here in Quebec, frankly a happy new year 2024. Forward - Towards the guitar and its fascinating nature. A beautiful day, Thierry
