Default Simon Fay Guitars - "Roadtrip" Guitar

A number of years ago, several AGF luthiers sent out guitars that traveled around the country - these were called "roadtrip" guitars. If an individual wanted to be a part of the roadtrip, they just needed to ship the guitar to the next person on the list. Generally, participants would keep the guitar for 1 week. I've been thinking that it might be nice to do another one. There is devaluation that comes along with a roadtrip guitar and so, I would need enough participants to warrant the effort - 25 or more individuals seems about right.

I have business/shipping insurance and so I'd arrange the shipping and email a shipping label - reimbursement could be done via check or PayPal. I would need to build a guitar first - so this would have to start in late 2018 or early 2019. So let me know if you would be interested in participating and I'll see if there is enough interest to make this a reality. Also, let me know what wood combination you would be most interested in as well.

And since posts are so empty without pictures, here's some photos of two guitars I recently completed.

Wow Simon! I would love to be part of this. What a wonderful thing! I could drive up and get it from rick-slo! And I would love to play any wood combination you decided to use.

Hi Simon,
I'd be interested in participating. Thanks much.

I was able to play the road trip guitar you supplied years ago. An AGF member brought it to a local AGF Get-Together.

Simon,

I'd be interested to give it a go and share with people in the Washington DC area.

I am interested in participating. Both the guitars that you have posted here are gorgeous but the second one is absolutely stunning. If it sounds as rich as it looks.... Those tone woods would work for me. And that mahogany in the first one is lovely. I'll let you pick.

Thanks for suggesting to do this again. It is a really great way for folks to get their hands on finely crafted instruments that they otherwise might not have access to.

Best,
Jayne

Smile This would be fun

One of the great things about AGF is the ability to try wonderful instruments (by fabulous builders) that are just not available in one's area.

I bet there are others besides me in San Diego (and close) who would love to be able to check out one of your beauties.

Why not? Sign me up.

Thanks for offering this to us, Simon

Paul

Great news! I am most interested. I am also more than happy to host an AGF gathering so as many members as possible can share the experience. Did this when the last Simon Fay road trip guitar came through, as well as for the Harvey Leach, the Lance Kragenbrink, and the Kolaya guitars. Great fun and a great experience. We had similar gathering when the McKnights came through town with guitars too. Looking forward to it.

Jeff
