Best tube amp for electric under $800
Rather than high jack the other thread I thought I'd start a new one . Seems like this is the price really good tube amps start , correct me if I'm wrong . I'm looking for an amp for my livingroom that has tons of vintage tone and wont blow out my windows or ears . Looking for DEREK AND THE DOMINOES / Jimmy Page / Neil Young classic rock tone high gain at low volume but not heavy metal sound .

Peavey Classic 30!!!
I have the head with the 2-12 speaker cab and its perfect for me. I used a classic 50 for 10 years whild gigging and doing 3x's per week rehearshals. Now I just play in my home so I went with the 30 and it is perfect for my home use as stated above.

Any Mesa boogie Tube Combo Amp. Line 6 has some great Combo Amps with Built in Modeling. Remember this Bigger is often not better. I have also heard some small Fender Combo Amps that blew me away. Bigger MAY BE better if you are playing Arenas!
 The other thing you have to take into consideration is the kind of Music you spend most of your time playing electrically.

The Tiny Terror Combo from Orange Amps has killer tone for a small tube amp and is switchable between 7 or 15 watts, and is in your price range...it may not match the furniture (unless you're into that sort of thing) but would tuck neatly behind the couch...

I think I would look very hard at Blackheart. Little Giant/Killer Ant. You can ease into one of those for under 3 bills and the reviews are impressive!

Tough to beat a Vox AC15CC1X. The AC15CC upgraded with a Celestion AlNiCo Blue speaker. Tube amp heaven.

I would recommend checking out the new Egnater Rebel...it is available at GC for a couple bills less than your limit:
http://www.egnateramps.com/Rebel20.html It is 20 watts, but has power scaling so you can turn it down to 1 watt for practice in the living room. You can also switch between 6V6 and EL84 tubes with the twist of a knob. This amp will get you a wide range of tube-driven classic rock tones.

1. Fender Blues Jr. 2. Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue 3. Fender "Hot Rod" series amps 4. Peavey Delta Blues 5. Peavey Classic 30 6. Vox AC15CC1X Let your ears decide...

After more amps than I can count, the Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue has permanently cured my GAS for electrict tube amps.

The Peavey Classic 30 is your best bet. It comes in a combo version too. I regret selling the one I had. Today I have a Laney VC30-210. Laney is a very good but underrated amp. Unfortunately, in the past year, Laney has increased their prices noticeably. So to get a VC30 in your price range, you'd be looking at used.

Original Early 80's Fender Super Champ (Not Current XD)
Have you considered the original Fender Super Champ (not the current XD), the Paul Rivera, Sr.-designed beauty of a tube amp from the first half of the 80's? It's an 18-watt gem, the last of the point-to-point hand-wired regular Fender production amps. Tube complement: 7025 (low-crackling 12AX7), 12AT7, 6C10, and 2 x 6V6. I bought my 1984 model the year it was produced and it's still a player's delight. Where would Fender amp production be today had it not been for Rivera, who headed up Fender R&D for 3-4 years in the early 80's, and Ed Jahns, a brilliant electrical engineering mind?
Click on thumbnails for larger resolution as well as the link for my slideshow. They're pretty pricey nowadays for a small, vintage tube amp --- 700 to 800 bonz. But you won't be disappointed. Tip: If a seller includes the Super Champ footswitch, get it. The f/s is proprietary and can only be used with two or three Fender tube amps from that era.
